China's frontline aircraft & naval radar using GaN MMIC for Power Amplifier, while US mostly uses GaA China achieved 119W GaN TR Module as early as 2008! America made strategic error in not moving faster. While F-35 moving to GaN w/ APG-85 China has major break thru w/ GaO MMIC So J-20/35 Power amplifier modules (used for electronic warfare and radar) is 1-gen ahead of current APG-77/79/81 on F-22/18EF/35 due to American complacency at a time when America was ahead of China in 3rd gen semiconductor material. Now that China is on par w/ Japan & ahead of America in 4th gen semi material (GaO & Diamond), it is also placing export control on Ga & Diamond to America. It will have significant advantage in EW & radar over USAF aircraft in the future. Remember, my comments about PTMS on J-36, this is why it's needed. The advantage of 4th gen semi material in RF cannot be utilized unless there is enough electrical power & associated cooling & electrical system to support. Thankfully for China, it is also world's leader in electrical system efficiency, power semiconductor, battery, high voltage systems & cooling. All this the result of its EV development obviously. btw, this is pure nonsense. If you do teardowns of iPhone vs other major OEM phones, iPhone has far & away the least Chinese components. iPhone uses Chinese suppliers when there are no reasonable alternatives like the 3D printed Ti USB-C tech below & to keep mkt access open to the world's largest phone mkt. In fact, an Apple that does not use Chinese supply chain would not be able to charge the premium it currently charges bc the battery life would be terrible & it would not achieve the ultra-thin build.

While most Vietnam visitors into China are probably checking out Yunnan via train, this seem to be spreading to Shanghai also. Shanghai has long been China's 1st stop for many foreign visitors. A lot of Japanese, Korean & Russians. I wonder if Shanghai will become for ASEAN countries what Miami is for Latin American countries. Basically, a metropolis that not only shapes nearby areas but the entire region from cultural & social trends & such. If you have ever been to South America, you'd see that a lot of local elites have connections to Miami. They like to compare wealthy & nicer part of their cities to Miami. People w/ money buy homes in Miami. And business open their US branch in Brickell. If there is 1 city in China that could probably have that kind of magnetism for surrounding Asian population, that would be Shanghai. Shenzhen is more technologically advanced, but ppl are workaholics. Beijing is too political & far north. Chongqing is too inland & probably not as fashionable. Shanghai checks all the boxes.

Andy Xie understands China very well & he proposes certain areas that China can squeeze harder on US Inc in China if this gets uglier. Basically, he thinks China can live w/o America but not vice versa. This is not 2018 when China needed US chips & SMEs. To Chinese elites, chip war was a bigger shock to the system than the current trade war. China was not prepared in 2018 or 2022, but it is extremely prepared this time around. It might lose 0.5-1% in growth, but that's not a big deal in the overall scheme of things. China's tech sector cannot get crippled by further sanctions & that's why China can afford to play tough. If you do not understand this, then you are not fit to evaluate this entire tariff situation. China thinks America has very few card left, but it still has plenty of ways to hit back. These are not my sentiment. This is how China is thinking. If you don't like the message, don't attack me (the messenger).

Electronic cloth, 800G+ optical module are some of the fastest growers Electronic industry itself contributed to 43% of total profit growth across all industrial enterprises. Equipment mfg overall grew by 14%. All the East Asian economies have been growing really fast due to AI. Why would China not benefit from this when it's so big in electronics. China Northern Rare Earth Group not only mastered the smelting & separation tech for 6N purity RE alloy, but since 2022, it has spent 400 days to create an automatic production line from RE concentrates to Oxides. It has 60% of global capacity in RE smelting & separation. Reminder that it takes a lot of effort & research to develop ultra high purity RE material & to produce production line capable of high level production. Remember that with highly automated production line for oxides, you don't need as many specialized workers to produce the capacity you need. You just need a lot of energy + capex. This is why when we hear Heavy RE processing plant built outside of China that started production, it's always important to see how much they are able to actually produce.

Largest final assembly of shipping in Northern China. Huge welding robots now reduced # of workers by half while doubling the workload. Delivery time for special welding wire was shortened from 6 months to 7 after switching to domestic supplier + significantly cheaper. Now, a new ship launches every 30 days. Both h/w & s/w continue to improve. The shipyards continue to improve in everything to improve production flow & replacing w/ domestic suppliers (including software). All of this has not only cut cost & increased supply line security, but also sped up delivery time & iteration time.

China provides update on its artificial sun research in BEST project from Hefei. By end of 2027, this device will conduct research & verify long-pulse steady state operation -> achieving fusion power of 20 to 200MW + realization greater energy production than consumption. Some challenges in fusions include: 1) obtaining Tritium/Hydrogen-3 for DT fusion. Need to verify self-sustaining production can happen & fusion reactor can produce tritium by itself. 2) "first wall" problem - large number of high energy fast neutrons are produced, which colligate with reactor inner wall material -> causing degradation. Need to verify material design that can absorb ultra-high energy neutron impact. 3) combustion time - long term controlled plasma combustion requires highly sophisticated predictive models & control systems. Sounds like we are still pretty far from achieving long sustaining fusion energy & at competitive operating cost.

Demand is very high to North America & Southeast Asia. Suppliers fully booked until 2027Q1. Px for certain product up 650% YoY. In fact, supply is not coming online as fast as demand requires. Some major suppliers increasing product in 2026 includes HengTeng & Far East Smarter Energy. As AI DC go fully optical, demand for optical fiber grew exponentially. Note demand in SEA, where many American & Chinese big tech are building Data centers.
