Coaching from the stands is disrespectful to … Your kid!! The best players can figure out solutions on their own, they don’t need help from the stands. Each game is an opportunity for players to learn how to do that. Yes, they will fail, but they will learn. And ultimately they will be a better player because of it. Shouting instructions from the stands only shows that you don’t believe they have the ability to make adjustments, and you aren’t good with failing so they can grow.

It won’t, not because those who were responsible for that dark past will not try again or are not even trying now again. It will not happen again just because there will be people who will stand up and fight. When people argue against free will, you often see them smuggle in some intriguing moral assumptions. They often end up in the same place: if people don’t have free will, then we shouldn’t hold them responsible for their actions. We should stop being judgmental. We should overhaul the criminal justice system, because criminals supposedly didn’t choose to commit their crimes—they “couldn’t help it.” The implicit argument here is that they don’t have free will, but you—the reader—do. You’re smart enough, educated enough, morally enlightened enough to freely decide how to treat others. You can choose to create a more lenient or compassionate legal system. You can reimagine our institutions. But those other people—they didn’t have choices. They’re just automatons. Pawns. Creatures being pushed around by forces beyond their control. It’s a quietly elitist view. And frankly, an ugly one. It strips people of agency in the name of compassion. But once you deny someone’s free will, once you say they aren’t truly autonomous, it opens the door to all kinds of rationalizations for authoritarianism. If they don’t have free will, then what does it matter what we do to them? I’m not against exploring the scientific or philosophical arguments about determinism. Those can be interesting. But too often, the “no free will” crowd embeds moral arguments they never fully own up to. And one of the most common is: the unenlightened masses don’t have free will—but the rest of us do.

[most people don’t lose money because they picked the wrong coin, they lose money because they treat every dollar the same] one of the better investing takes I’ve heard from Ansem lately. he breaks it into 3 buckets: - cash for emergencies - long-term investments that compound - active trades where you take your shots the mistake? most people put 100% into bucket #3 and call it investing. his point wasn’t to avoid risk. “you don’t wanna be all in something like that” because if one trade blows up, your entire portfolio goes with it. everyone wants the 10x. very few people respect the power of compounding 10% a year for a decade. take the moonshots. just don’t gamble the part of your portfolio that’s supposed to survive long enough to catch them.
