True...and that's why external sources of motivation have short term effect while motivation coming from our internal self or our identity is infinitely large and makes us unstoppable.

I think we have firstly to experience the motivation as cause of our results and then tie it to our identity. Sport is the best training tool to develop motivation.

Also a lot of times motivation is kinda overrated. A lot of times it is about clarity more than motivation. For the same example: if I want to start going to the gym regularly, having a very clear schedule of what exact workout would I be doing on which day helps a great deal.
