Motor Speed Controller

Here the transistors is used as a resistor so it will generate high heat. Such type of motor driver should not be shown to the audience. Better you show motor driver using PWM like a 555 based driver. If you want to spread knowledge then teach them what is appropriate.

This is a resistive method of speed control, it will heat up the transistor acting as a variable series resistor. Better use a NE555 timer chip in Astable mode and vary the Control pin 5 to get a PWM output at pin 3 to drive the DC toy motor. More efficient way.
