Artist Paul Fey is experiencing and auditioning live on the giant console of the world's largest pipe organ. The sound of the organ echoes powerfully throughout the vast space of an auditorium. This is a pipe organ officially named the Boardwalk Hall Auditorium Organ (also known as the Midmer-Losh or Poseidon organ). It is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest and loudest musical instrument ever constructed in the world, featuring 7 manuals (keyboards) and officially containing 33,112 pipes. Our new organ has had a profound impact on congregational singing in Chapel and on the development of organ studies at Radley. 🙏 For Kim (6.2, K) and Bernardo (6.2, H) the new instrument, built by Nicholson & Co. Ltd of Malvern, inspired them to take up the organ. They have both recently received offers to become organ scholars at Cambridge University; Kim to read music at Selwyn College (after a gap year at Portsmouth Cathedral ☩) and Bernardo to read maths at Trinity Hall. They will join Henry Morris (2017, H) who is currently organ scholar at Magdalen College. We hear from them all in this short film, as well as Dr Tim Morris (Timothy Morris). Tim tells us about the opportunities for organists at Radley, the ‘tricky’ design brief and how the boys’ favourite hymns have never sounded better. RCO

"A Whiter Shade" of Pale was the first single by Procol Harum (1967) and was one of the greatest hits of the psychedelic era. Gary Brooker created the melody, but the iconic, baroque organ riff was improvised by Matthew Fisher (inspired by Bach). The track mixes rock, classic and psychedelia in a way that no one had done before. It became #1 in the UK for 6 weeks and sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Years later (2006/2009), Fisher sued the band and won copyright for the organ riff he created.
