🚨 Darlington Council has signed off TWELVE translation contracts worth up to £720,000. Seriously, why?! Darlington has around 107,000 residents. Roughly 8,400 weren’t born in the UK. And of course, many of those people will speak English. Yet somehow the council has signed off 12 separate translation contracts worth up to £60,000 each. No wonder the council is £170m in debt! Then remember… We all carry a device in our pocket that can translate almost any language in seconds for free. Yet our public sector continues spending tens of millions on translation every year. Honestly… what are we doing?

Charlie Mullins has just confirmed on GB News that he would vote again to remain in the EU. Yet he is to be a candidate for Reform UK It seems absurd I must spell this out but remainers want to be governed by a foreign power. Reform UK was founded to oppose remainer ideology. What is the point of Reform if it doesn’t believe in a sovereign United Kingdom???

Priyadarshini says, "Technically, the question that was raised is that students can choose from 23 languages. But the point is: do we have the expertise for that? The court has asked the government for clarification because English is listed as a foreign language in the document. So, they wanted clarification on whether English will be considered a native or foreign language, because treating it otherwise is very colonial in principle. DON’T TELL US HOW TO SPEAK! Just as any two living creatures have a common ancestor in the tree of life, so any two languages have a common tongue from which they ultimately derived. Scientists currently believe that the world’s 6,000 modern languages, from English to Mandarin, can all be traced back to a ‘mother tongue’ - an ancestral language spoken in Africa 50,000 to 70,000 years ago. Differently put: all languages are descended from primordial African! This makes it all the more galling that Africans who visit, work or live outside of the continent are often taunted and laughed at because sometimes they don’t pronounce English words ‘properly’ - even though these words are ‘deviations’ (however far removed) from African-language words. The continent’s turbulent history of colonisation is the reason for the use of European languages in African schools, commerce and governments today. However, something that is overlooked is that most Africans are accustomed to speaking multiple languages, perhaps three or more, throughout the course of a single day. That’s one reason Africans pronounce certain words with an accent - they can speak other languages fluently enough for those languages to interfere with their English. In this clip, Anna Mwalagho (@mamaafricaanna) - an African storyteller living in the United States - gives a passionate defence of the uniqueness of African accents, arguing that this diversity is something to celebrate and be proud of.
