✨ A lot of progress on my drone sim today which has now evolved to a kind of soldier + drone sim (my entry to the #vibejam even though I can't win of course) Today I changed the sounds from synth to real sounds, I edited a lot in Audacity to make these shooting loops and now it sounds much more real Also added ambient background sounds like nature birds but also general like distant war sounds And of course you hear the drone sound we had before The new game mode I'll show soon is you start as a soldier and you have like 3 drones in your backpack you can use, you press F and then you launch a drone from your point and attack, then if you exit that or it crashes you're back to being a soldier, very fun With the sounds it feels much more real and scary! I keep saying but then next is multiplayer...cause I want to see you all walk and fly around in my game 😊😊😊

✨ Progress on my drone sim 🚁 Drone of War: Removed my old giant city FBX, because 1) it wasn't made by AI, 2) it was way too big Made the scenery a sandy war land now and just generating my own 3d assets now with Cursor and Tripo (sponsors of #vibejam) Also removed the drone sound, I thought a drone operator probably doesn't hear the drone sound anyway (only if it's near them) and I was inspired by Denis Bondarev to add some sine wave sounds and it made some buddhist type dings that I really like The paradox of war + buddhist sounds is kinda interesting combo, there's something disturbing about drone warfare where it's just people remotely controlling it I wanted to capture that in a game Also added real soldiers models (also generated), they're static though, but they do move, but I need to make them move somehow, not sure how yet, soldiers shoot at you and try take you down Also need to add tanks and other military vehicles that drive around And then I need to add more of a gameplay element, I still think about multiplayer where you choose to be either a drone or a soldier/tank/etc so it's drone vs everyone else! P.S. I can't participate in the #vibejam as the organizer of course but I still like to make some fun games just for fun and to show the tools!

🚁 My war drone simulator Apocalypse Drone now has support for 32 players! I also made it Conquest/CTF so you have multiple bases that you have to capture, each round the map is procedurally generated and random so every time it's different (like Battlefield) There's still some bugs to work out and most importantly I have to figure out soldier animations, because they're fixed models now But I have got really far this time I think and coding with AI is really way further than it was a year ago, you mostly notice that how few times you get stuck, only one time this month building this I got stuck which was today where I moved the AI players to the server and they kept showing up as invisible, very buggy, every time I told it that it couldn't fix it though Then I asked it to fundamentally analyze the current server-side AI player code and make it work like industry standard, and it took a long time and fixed everything Last year I'd get stuck hundreds of times and the AI just couldn't get itself out of a hole, but now it can I think it's impressive that just last year only for the first time we could make actual games with AI But this year as non-game dev, I can get pretty close to the level of a multiplayer game from 20y ago (like Battlefield 1942, that lots of ideas here are based on, but with drones :D) Obviously we're still far away from AAA (I hate that term though) but the curve of exponential progress is there again, as it was in AI image generation, then video, and now code, first bad, then better, then good enough! We built an AI-steered homing/killer drone in just a few hours I thought it would be fun to build a drone that chases you around as a game. It just uses an AI object detection model to find people in the frame, and then the drone is programmed to fly towards this at full speed as soon as it detects someone. This literally took just a few hours to build, and made me realize how scary it is. You could easily strap a small amount of explosives on these and let 100's of them fly around. We check for bombs and guns but THERE ARE NO ANTI-DRONE SYSTEMS FOR BIG EVENTS & PUBLIC SPACES YET. I was also able to add face recognition to it, and only make it attack someone it knew who was, it could easily identify the person from 10 meters distance. My bet is that we will see some sort of terror attack using this type of tech within the next few years. You still need some technical knowledge to build this now, but it becomes easier and easier. We need to build anti-drone systems for civilian spaces asap. I'm usually an open-source absolutist, but I will not post for now, it's honestly super easy to code but no point enabling. Disclaimer: this was built on a tiny drone for a game and would not hurt anyone, just wanted to spread awareness around this .

✨ Added client-side OpenCV to my drone sim that watches the drone video feed in-game and tries to detect people, it's messy and wrong all the time (like real OpenCV running on a shitty radio connection) It's starting to look pretty real and with multiplayer it's becoming actually really fun marc-antoine had a tip to let people walk to an X on the map to pick up a drone, which they can then use to fly around, then if it crashes/shot, you lose it and you have 0 drones That forces you to walk around the map to collect drones, which give you an advantage, but while you walk you're obviously at risk Also I added night mode now and you get a flashlight, but other players can see you use your flashlight and spot you And added a 4G tower and sksycraper you can climb and hide in :D

The last music video I ever made with a camera. On this shoot I hired a drone operator to fly over a truck. I noticed when I called "action" the drone pilot just hit a button and never touched the controls again. The drone was automatically following the artists face. Can everything be automated? I knew then that my job was going to disappear very quickly. I imagined a future where artists uploaded their song and a selfie and got a full music video back in seconds. I can't compete with that. So I committed to staying up to date on new tech that helped artists become self-sufficient. Ai doesn't undercut artists. Ai liberates artists from financial barriers that are otherwise almost impossible to break through. Get to work.

✨ I can now generate 3d assets for my drone sim at directly from Cursor (sponsor of #vibejam) I need buildings that you'd see in a war torn city, like warehouses in ruins, broken down abandoned houses, bombed out bridges etc. Nano Banana Pro or 2 can generate them really well and then you can put them in an image-to-3d model and you get a GLB or FBX That one you can then import into your Three.js game, the models might be big though, in my case like 16MB, so I ask it to compress it and make it more low poly so it loads fast ThreeJS then loads the individual GLBs on page load and puts them in my drone sim somewhere randomly, I think I should remove some of the grass and match the sandy color of the ruins though to make it fit in more

🕹️ As the #vibejam organizer, I sadly can't participate But I still really really really wanted to make an FPV drone sim 😊 So I started to make it today, it has the real movement like a real drone, swerving left and right fast (with your mouse) and steering with keys WASD and Space to go up and Shift to go down, it's just a draft but you can try it here: 🚁 I love that typical VHS-ey analog video signal noise, so i tried to emulate it and of course it gets noisier the further you fly away and you lose radio signal I want to improve the look more to make it look really realistic this time, last year the plane game was fun but it didn't look realistic, this year we can try to go for more photorealistic as AI might finally be able to do it And of course I added an onboard gun and grenades you can throw off the drone Next I wanna add like more stuff to fly through like buildings and maybe some moving tanks and real enemies to shoot too A challenge is to get it to look realistic with just AI generated trees and scenery etc. I will follow the 90% AI rule and try to generate assets instead of importing them Anyway first impression is that there's been a lot of progress in AI models, they're much smarter than when we did the Vibe Jam a year ago, they still make mistakes but much less and it's easier to get your point across what you want them to build, very cool!

A sneak peek on the multiplayer mode I'm adding to my game for @levelsio's 2026 #vibejam I'm really happy with how this is turning out! Big shoutout to Colyseus ⚔️ for such a nice framework. I fetched the whole docs, created a colyseus-skill.md file and it's pretty much one shotting everything (still need some tweaks and testing, of course) I'm just not very happy with the single character model, it looks weird on multiplayer. I might add more if I get the time.

🚁🏚️ Okay so I asked Cursor to add FBX scenery of a city in ruins, which is a bit of a cheat code because the city is not generated by AI But instantly it looks like a real drone sim in a war zone, try scroll vid through the end Now I just need to add better lighting and collision detection and more stuff, and fix some bugs Very cool since I only started ~4 hours ago 😲 Way way faster progress than last year I think Also the scenery is like 300mb so I somehow need to fix that...

OK, it's cold out there! It's already in the 20s here. This activity has been crazy lately! I haven't seen them this active and coming close together in a long time. I think they're going to do something big again soon! I've proven again that they don't like tech! The closer I get to them with cameras and drones, the more they take them out. They just drained the batteries in my handheld starlight camera when they got close to me—I had just charged them. I also sent the thermal drone up; as soon as it cleared the trees, the ones right in front of me vanished. I've found that if I get the drones too close to them, they will take them or destroy them, but if I hover, they sometimes approach the drones without harming them. I've lost four very expensive drones to them—one was a $15,000 drone—so I try not to get too close with the drones now. I have something very special filmed with the drones that's going to change the world when everything comes out! This is a short video from when I sent the drone up tonight. I'm reviewing the other videos right now and will try to post some more tonight. I did film something on the thermal drone after this part, but I need to see how it looks.

I've found that if I get the drones too close to them, they will take them or destroy them, but if I hover, they sometimes approach the drones without harming them. I've lost four very expensive drones to them—one was a $15,000 drone—so I try not to get too close with the drones now. I have something very special filmed with the drones that's going to change the world when everything comes out! This is a short video from when I sent the drone up tonight. I'm reviewing the other videos right now and will try to post some more tonight. I did film something on the thermal drone after this part, but I need to see how it looks.
