March 15: On this day, the world recognized March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, a milestone which became possible because of the leadership and vision of Imran Khan, a leader who raised the voice of nearly 2 billion Muslims on the global stage. Under his leadership, Pakistan led a global diplomatic effort rallying support from the international community to confront rising Islamophobia and stand for dignity, respect, and religious freedom worldwide. Thankyou #ImranKhan #TodayInHistory #IslamophobiaDay

Islamophobia and hate are a lived reality for far too many Muslim Canadians. Today, on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Special Representative Elghawaby and I stand with Muslim communities across 🇨🇦 and around the world as we continue to fight Islamophobia.

As a result of the diplomatic efforts made by several Islamic countries with prominent political figures such as Imran Khan, the United Nations declared March 15, which falls today, an international day to combat Islamophobia in 2022 , so that the world is alerted to this phenomenon & the need to end it, especially in the West. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 is that one of the advocates of thisa day, Imran Khan, is living in detention on false charges & where he immediately needs an international & Islamic campaign for his release. He is a person that the world needs for security & peace. His place is not to be behind prison bars. #islamophobia_day #ReleaseImranKhanImmediately

I participated in the 18th Extraordinary Session of the OIC-CFM held today, in a virtual format, and shared Pakistan’s grave concern on the recurrent incidents of the desecration of the Holy Quran. I welcomed the worldwide condemnation of these abhorrent acts. I recalled the Action Plan that I outlined earlier this year, at the special event in New York on the first commemoration of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia which inter alia entailed appointment of a UN Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia and the establishment of judicial mechanisms to hold perpetrators accountable. Pakistan denounces all wanton acts of Islamophobia that cause distress & concern across the Muslim world. OIC carries the burden of responsibility to protect the dignity of Muslims. 🇵🇰 has & will continue to partake in all OIC efforts to combat Islamophobia & project our collective concerns as resolutely as possible.

In June 2023, two months before former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan became a political prisoner, I had the honour of speaking to him about the hatred of Islam in the West. Imran khan said the first time he ever saw Islamophobia was when the Iranian revolution took place in 1979 and he knew Iran would become a target. Wow. Have a listen to him. I often wonder what he would do with this war, if he was free today 💔

Across the world, Muslims continue to face discrimination, hostility, and even violence because of their faith. This must change. Discrimination or hatred directed at any community because of its religion has no place in our society. Today, marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we reaffirm our commitment to dignity, tolerance, and mutual respect. Standing up against Islamophobia is not only about defending one religious community. It is about defending our shared humanity.

“This is an important moment for the world to focus on Pakistan, where not only former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife have been detained, but even members of his extended family. It reinforces the fear this regime has of Imran Khan, what he stands for, and what he means to his people.”- Jared Genser, international legal counsel for Imran Khan speaks to ABC News. #FreeImranKhan
