Ommission, selection and over-saturation of information have been successful strategies of telling the truth and nothing but the truth but just not the whole truth. It's an accepted form of opaque authoritarian transparency that occurs in all fields of study. Sadly.

@TLAVagabond "Peer Reviewed" LEADS people to think everyone practicing a certain scientific specialty read the damn thing and agreed with it. It becomes "Science by Plebiscite," or, as Logic would describe it, the fallacy of "Appeal to the Majority." In fact, no one knows who read it.

There's a fundamental general rule that allows you to spot this problem in advance. This problem only occurs with metadata, data about data. It never occurs with direct data, direct observation, but people stopped believing their own eyes nowadays.
