Half the battle with self-hosted tools is realizing you now own the uptime problem for the uptime monitor. Learned that one the hard way running a status page that went down before the thing it was monitoring did.

Solid list. OpenStatus is a great example of the Monitoring as Code shift, but be careful with the 'no infrastructure' promise from platforms like Sevalla. You aren't avoiding infrastructure-you are just delegating the complexity to a black box. For rapid scaling, it is a win. For long-term architectural control, always know what is happening under the hood. Great tools are leverage, not a replacement for fundamental systems knowledge.

sevalla is neither open-source nor free - isn't that right? when i worked on their @raycast extension, there was a free trial but no free tier 🤔
