My 8yo Alpha student is starting his second year testing in the 99th-percentile for Math, Language, and Reading. There's nothing holding him back or unnaturally pushing him forward. He'll just continue into middle school content this year while being a classic, active kid.

NEW: 14-year-old Texas boy has part of his skull removed after being bodyslammed inside his school cafeteria for telling a joke. The family of Lukas Hardeman says their son cracked a joke, which resulted in him being thrown into a stool. Hardeman was then rushed into emergency surgery in Dallas, a two-hour drive. He was left with brain bleeds, swelling, and over 60 stitches. The middle schooler needed to have part of his skull removed to relieve pressure. "My 14-year-old son ... was seriously injured at the Middle School he attends. While sitting in the cafeteria, Lukas made a joke to another student, who then picked him up and body slammed him. This still doesn't solve the pacing problem or the fact that kids aren't uniformly advanced. A kid can be flying in math and behind in reading at the same time. At Alpha, a fifth grader doing geometry sits right next to a friend who's catching up on fourth-grade math. Same room, same age, no one pulled out, no one held back. They're just each working on what they actually need.
