My thoughts and Solution to the "Tanking Problem" The real problem isn't that Utah is tanking, it's that they have to out-tank teams that keep tanking. Once you get 3 top picks in 5 years you should be removed from the lottery. Go figure it out and let other teams rebuild

Bad teams don’t tank because they are dying to lose for six months straight, alienate fans and create bad habits for their young players. They do it because they have to – the NBA just doesn’t give bad teams a lot of avenues to get better. And a number of the “tanking solutions” that have been proposed would actually make it even HARDER for bad teams to climb out of the bottom of the standings. Flatten the lottery odds? So you’re proposing giving good teams a *better* chance to get the best rookies and bad teams a *worse* chance than they have now? Yeah, that’s bad for the league, bad for fans, bad for players. The NBA needs to focus on creating more pathways to improve, so tanking isn’t the only way - and in my opinion that means holding bad owners accountable too.

It used to be limited to a small group of teams. I think at one point I could genuinely stand up and say rebuilding and not say tanking…. Our fans were speaking loud and clearly about this being unacceptable. Oddly in some markets, fans were cheering on their teams saying ‘of course this is the right strategy!’

Expanding the NBA lottery from 14 to 18 teams is more likely to fuel tanking than put an end to it The proposed solution rewards the bottom 10 records with an equal 8% shot at the top pick, while the remaining teams would all have an equal 2.5% chance None of this actually addresses the root issue: Losing has been made an EXTREMELY valuable strategy in a sport where competition is supposed to be paramount Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Pod, "“I had an executive tell me the number one pick this year is worth $100 million.
