My fav math question, during an interview

Let pencil cost x Then pen would cost x+1 So, x+x+1 = 1.1 2x=1.1-1 2x=0.1 x=0.05 .. this is cost of pencil cost of pen = 0.05+1 = 1.05

It looks like a lot of people haven’t read Thinking Fast and Slow :) Fortunately, I have. The cost is 0.05. Remove 0.05 from 1.10 and you’ll he left with 1.05. Exactly 1 more than 0.05.

x + y = 1.1 x - y = 1 x= 1.1-y 1.1 - y - y = 1; 1.1 - 2y =1; 2y = 0.1 y = 0.05 Therefore x = 1.05 Pen is for 1.05 & pencil for 0.05
