My favorite (and arguably the most influential) opening title sequence.

This one has stayed with me for years since it blew my mind when I saw it in theatres. I have the NIN song in my playlist and still sounds so good to this day. The only other opening title sequence (in my humble opinion) that comes close is Finchers Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Saw this on the big screen last year again for the restoration release and the title sequence still absolutely kills. A perfect overture for what’s to come.

The one and only Kyle Cooper, heir to Saul Bass.

@DavidPoland For some unfathomable reason, I’m the first to write the words “Stan Brakhage” in this thread If you, reader, are unfamiliar, change that. You’ll soon see that Fincher (and Derrickson) know exactly who he was

the amount of times you’ve mentioned this movie scott… i just need to hurry up and watch it already!

My favorite film since the 80s

It’s a film that had me fully believe the evil viscerally.

For me it's this:

Stunning. Saw this in the theater opening weekend and the audience actually applauded when the titles ended.

This is the pinnacle of the distressed analog era, when directors like Fincher, Dean Karr and Samuel Bayer were doing incredible work with the texture of film.

Many I love, but if I have to choose one...

Easily. At the first pre-release screening at the Mann Village Westwood I’ll never forget the audible gasps throughout. My friend leaned over and said, We’re with the killer. Unshakable.

The razor blade on the fingerprints gets me, still makes me squirm

Everything about it is immense. Having NIN covering Soft Cell is a masterstroke.

My favorite is from him, but The girl with the dragon tattoo

The designer of the titles, Kyle Cooper created what is arguably the created title sequence ever. It perfects fits the film and serves the story perfectly. Brilliant. Shame so few films take the time to do the same.

There more "movie" in this main title sequence than in most movies.

Se7en truly has a great opening title sequence @scottderrickson! My personal favorites are The Fly (1986), Halloween (1978), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and Baby Driver (2017).

Crazy how many times this has been replicated but no one has ever come close to the original

It's certainly right up there. Another Fincher film featuring a stunning cover version of a Led Zeppelin song "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is almost as terrifying as this one.

100% agree. I knew it was special the first time I saw it.

They actually wrote in ALL of those journals. Every single page. Like… what!?! Anyway, you can see the small details in this opening…

it's magnificent! prob my second fav ever, only after Apocalypse Now's non-title opening sequence.

Reminds me of

It is an injustice that Fincher doesn't have an Oscar for Best Director

It’s as engrossing has the film. Speaks volumes to its greatness. I love Se7en. I’m not sure your take, but I personally think Gone Girl is just as great, albeit in different ways. One thing I really love about Fincher is his ability to cast. Rosamund is jaw dropping good in it.

I can see the influence in Black Phone (another super cool opening)

The movie that saved David Fincher from nearly quitting making movies after he did Alien 3.

Agree 💯

I can hear this title sequence by looking at it.

mine is Grand Prix

this is my favorite.

Top 3 for sure
