I do this with launch position. Have them start from their launch and go from there. Love it

I like that as well - I actually have them take one step with their back leg towards the catcher and then have them launch forward.. really gives them that feel of getting it all from the ground up and exploding into the ball

Just a question - it looks like you have them "squishing the bug" which goes against current hitting teaching. So I wonder how you migrate from this drill to keep them from squishing the bug? Thank you for your time! God Bless!

Squishing the bug is fine for youth. As they get older they can handle a more aggressive back knee drive that will force them to a toe, or in other cases they may just not need to squish. but generally with youth, to get their hips through they'll need to turn the back foot. for youth, im still big on squish the bug, although its not an absolute.
