My first thoughts on the Treasurer’s budget last night. I’ll be sitting down with highly renowned economist Chris Richardson today to break it all down. The conversation will be available on all podcast platforms tonight

Labor is broke and is looking for money and investors have money so Labor is coming for them. Labor are like bank robbers.

Calling this “help for young Australians” while also taxing shares and crypto is absurd. It’s not about putting young Aussies into homes — it’s a tax grab. Many young people use those investments to try to escape renting forever.

This is what many think of your take. You should come onto the @Boganintelpod to discuss.

Negative gearing should not be allowed under current tax law. The whole point of negative gearing is to make a loss. If there's no intent to make a profit - it's not an income producing activity - so losses aren't deductible. Property investors are greedy cnuts.

I will agree with the second half of your talk mark, government intervention has certainly contributed to house prices increasing. I will push back on the vision that Australians need realestate to build wealth. We must end the obsession with realestate, it is killing our productivity. A parent can leave a one million dollar home to their child, but I would argue a parent could also leave a company that turns over one milli per year and a job for life. One is productive, the other isn't.

I’m a Boomer & people like you make me sick. In my view the Budget went soft on CGT and the wealth accumulation and inheritance schemes that favour the few.

Well said Mark. I despair for my kids. They shouldn’t be working their asses off yet have to wait until I’m dead to purchase their first home.

Just come out and say it Australians just got fucked by a communist party Aspiration just died investment just died

You are a rich older Australian that has no interests in helping younger Australians. Your opinion is invalid

If you lost sleep over this you really need to get a life. How many home buyers have been priced out of the market because of tax breaks for investors? Houses are for living in. Find something else to invest your wealth in but give first home buyers a chance.

The idea that people owning assets that lose money so they get a tax break is defendable is so fucking stupid

All these whingers about the top 10% getting 83% of a half rate of CGT. Not doubling, just making it the same as nurses' tax rate. The same as it was for 15 years previously.

For me it meant I could safely retire early as knees buggered after trading work 40 years! I could not go on. Neg gearing saved me and wife.

What an utter disappointment you are. The Howard gov created the inequity in housing when they halved the CGT. Nothing worse than a wealthy whinger. Enjoy Chris Richardson, I heard him interviewed on ABC yesterday and he was very positive about the budget.

No doubt that sour grape spray will draw the full, 40 person Sky Audience. Don't forget to trot out the ABCs hoary chestnut of "Broken Promise" at least once in every sentence.

And as I watch this Albo the fuckwit it on Today blubbering his way around this. How the fk is he still in this role! Won’t be for long I suspect. Good on ya too Mark, always cool to see what you have to say.

The immigration issue needs to be addressed. How can Labor say there's intergenerational problems in regards to housing and then keep importing 1-2 million people into the country over just the past 4 years...it's a false economy of immigrants that is causing out housing problem

Not many people know this but CGT can also apply on the sale of a primary residence when your land size is over 2 hectares. This is all by design. These current changes will drive prices up as people will hold onto the asset longer. It will reduce supply as people will hold onto the asset for longer. If the government really wants to impact affordability and increase supply, get rid of the CGT completely!

Investors need to get out of real estate and stay in the stock market. Home ownership for families is in crisis because of this. Seriously. Stay in your lane & give first home owners a fair go.

@TaniaLe89811601 Conservatives tanked the economy. Howard's old policy needed tuning. After all, he sold our gold reserves off in the middle of a mining boom.

How about no tax for anyone unless it is passive income? People earning passive income get taxed 20%. Then a National sovereign fund from Gas, oil, coal etc to fund the shortfall. And, oh yes, stop the bloody government from employing people unnecessarily. The Government is so bloated it is not funny- that is where our taxes are going and it is B/S!.

The only reason Mark Bouris is upset is because he can't squeeze anymore money out of people like he did before. This guy isn't your friend, he's just a greedy scumbag...

@Ausbobsmit Houses will skyrocket now New Dwellings are going to be too expensive.. E established as skyrocket go through the roof guaranteed..

I’ve said that for years, best way to help people is to tax them less, the rest is total BS.

Capital gains shouldn’t be taxed.. negative gearing is encouraging to buy a house you can’t afford by funding losses.. imagine if the government says buy a business and any losses you get to claim against personal income- crazy.. it’s a bad policy and done to raise house prices

The crushing weight of government. They are so concerned with closing any loopholes to minimise tax. Legal loopholes mind. Meanwhile their own spending is so completely loose and undisciplined - a leaky ship. Crushing smart money to fuel dumb money.

Mark you needed to listen to your mum! You are a lifetime away from the credibility this Labor psrty has acquires, shut up & learn for a change!

Having owned 3 businesses, the system is totally geared towards real estate, you could work your arse off for years and get taxed to death, or you can sit on your arse for years with an investment property and get benifits to the eyeballs producing nothing and emplying nobody

@Ausbobsmit The biggest wealth transfer in history happened during the Covid plandemic, now they’re coming for the rest.

"It's a core part of Australianism to get a tax deduction for losing money in property investment". Are you listening to yourself Mark? For what it's worth, you can still offset it against future rental income. You just can't have the ATO subsidise your poor investment for 20y.

I’ve actually been thinking… if they scrap the 50% CGT discount for long term holders and trusts get pushed to a flat 30% tax rate, wouldn’t company structures suddenly become way more attractive?

So Labor lied to Australia They lied to get elected They penalise the self funded as that’s what we were told to do now Labor lied to us again You can never trust someone who consistently lies then says .. It’s in your best interest I lied to you… Labor must go

From each generation according to ability to pay To each generation according to the need to buy their vote

They are taxing and regulating the country into oblivion. They are already collecting record revenues from PAYE however irresponsible spending significantly out paces it. The bloated and ineffective bureaucracy is also a massive handbrake on the country.
