My first time capturing a launch with a telescope. Should I do this again for the next one?

It's better in the winter or late fall. Less moisture in the atmosphere. My 800 mm equivalent telephoto is plagued by the same atmospheric distortion that you experienced with your Celestron. After it climbed the "seeing" got better.

Yes, you should keep trying every possible idea you come up with. You are constantly pushing the envelope and capturing beautiful images.

I think every angle that you can get is more data and more chance to get that once in a life time view. Plus, you don't get your objective lens destroyed at this distance. 🙂

Is there a way to correct for heat waves? I've never heard of one but it seems like an interesting problem to solve if it hasn't been already. I guess for photos without motion you can do avg staking just like we do for removing noise. But maybe there's a "warp" of some sort that can be calculated and added to a single frame.

I can with photos of still objects but not for video, and not with object moving in 3d space

Can you pull back to see more of the puffs of smoke and it go higher?
