My full take on Venezuela

Today I’m thinking of a Venezuelan Uber driver I had in Orlando about 8 or 9 years ago. His family had owned two farms in Venezuela for over 200 years. The farms were stolen from them by Hugo Chavez. And two members of his family were beaten by Chavez’s thugs. Left with nothing, he and his wife fled to Florida. But they still had family left in Venezuela. I hope he can be reunited with them now. And I hope the farms and the other pilfered properties are returned to their rightful owners.

In 2010, two years into my PhD and still an eco-feminist Marxist, I met a Venezuelan woman in a small bar in Spearfish, SD. She rightfully told me I had no clue start I was talking about after I parroted John Pilger's propaganda about Venezuela in The War on Democracy. The same energy is coming from Democrats and progressives on social media, MSNBC, and NPR. Libertarians and paleo-conservatives have a different argument, which echoes those against the Bush/Obama wars of aggression and American imperialism. The question for them is whether liberty is a greater end than the NAP.
