We have a partial explanation. (They’re never beating the allegations.)

They do this over-identification w/ blackness to avoid unpacking racial desire. Very common for alleviating racial guilt. Han addresses this in response to Terrence Chappell. “Some gay men of color who prefer white men go to great lengths to argue that preferences are not rooted in self-hate or internalized racism. Terrence Chappell explained his affinity for white men in Jet magazine in this way Chappell reaffirms his love of himself while simultaneously noting that some Black men who exclusively date white men may, indeed, feel self-hate. In equating his desire for white men with straight women’s desires for men, racial desire becomes naturalized and unexplainable, thus absolving him of having to interrogate his racial preference for white men.” (Psychologically, a black gay who “prefers” white men can’t actually “love himself” in that way.)
