My goodness, Paddy O'Connell comes across as a proper prick here. From the start calling Count Binface by the wrong name — ‘Bin’ — twice when asked not to. And then trying some sort of weird gotcha exposé on him mid interview. #newsnight

It was beautiful when @CountBinface slapped down O'Connell and referred to Newsnight as a "souped up podcast"

Newsnight interrogates Count Binface more than Farage 🤦♂️

It's like Banksy. Yes we can easily Google it, but we dont wanna know.

That jarring shift of tone when he tried to get all Woodward and Bernstein on the Count. It was just weird.

This is the added bonus to Count Binface, it will show up the partiality, pettiness and lazy hack nature of a lot of Political journalism in the UK...

Paddy and the BBC need to be very careful to use the Count's full name as that will be his name on the ballot sheet, and saying it wrong could be tantamount to misleading voters.

Hilarious. Beneath the surreal humour and genuine wit, Count Binface seems more in tune with what voters think about the political scene than politicians - and media hacks - realise.

Paddy enraged by a bin. Fucking hell, do they not realise how stupid they look. They more they fight the more they falter soooooo badly

One wonders who is the comedian and who is the journalist at this point. Next time, will O'Connell invite Santa and reveal and spoiler his real identity?

You've got to be careful trying to outwit pro comedians.

“Souped-up podcast” was glorious 🤣🤣🤣👌🏽

It does seem that the BBC political correspondents get to a stage in their careers where they think they are better than everyone else, and forget they are there to report for the people. Newscast is a prime example of this.

Paddy always pretends to be this cheeky posh gay but is actually a very snooty right wing shill

Agree, completely the wrong tone

Paddy is the worst

O'Connell isn't a serious or skilled journalist.

O'Connell comes across as pompous & arrogant on most occasions!

I often find that Paddy O'Connell trivialises the news.

Ooo, a bit embarrassing to watch.

If Farage had been regularly questioned in this way over the last few years I'd have maybe understood it, but it backfired in a way that should have been obvious to any presenter or producer experienced in live programming. Never go 'devil's advocate' in situations like this.

The Count was ready for him though, and got backing from the other guests/commentators. It was almost a Sex Pistols/Bill Grundy moment

Calling him ‘Bin’ was stupid and wrong.

Paddy is a prick.

well these are the same asswipes that platformed Fartage for a decade and a half

O'Connell often used to stand in for Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 (possibly still does, but I ditched R2 a few years ago). That tells you all you need to know about O'Connell's political leaning....

Sounds like a Welsh Henning Wein

I think that was all scripted…

Didn’t feel like it to me. Felt more like disdain. Why on earth would the Count agree to be doxxed on live tele?

Edit. Paddy O'Connell proper prick

Newsnight is a shadow of the programme it was a couple of years ago.

Has POC removed his twitter account?

What a world we live in that comedy candidate gets more scrutiny than Nigel Farage?! 🙄🤡🤣🤣🤣

Paddy O’Connell a man with no sense of humour or of occasion.

Haven't watched Newsnight for years. It's quite the YouTube show now...

Paddy tries too hard to be glib. Nick tries too hard to be relevant…
