Let’s go! I need to start getting some smart home bullshit just to let flash control it. Even the on-device stuff is great (I use the beeper as a way to “emote”, like making a happy/laughing sound when it makes a reply)

this reminded me of the necklace AI arc

Hacking on this has made me wonder how the necklace AI people fucked up so badly. There are a million things I would want this to do that are actually helpful and useful and which don’t involve constant recording. (If you’re that kind of nuts then you can do constant recording anyway in much more discrete devices if that’s what you’re into (little pen-sized thing in a shirt pocket or clipped like a lav mic and stream to your phone or record on device and process it later.) Your phone already does everything anyway, so this kind of form factor is nice as a reduction of features for people who have access to more powerful ai tools but don’t want to be interacting with their phones or big ai apps, or who want to be firing off little notes or commands. Probably a watch would be a better form factor but even that would have more UI to go through to get to the “record a message and shoot it off to an LLM real quick”. You can make this stuff cute and useful

the necklace arc died because they tried to sell companionship instead of capability. your chatboi nails the actual usecase 99% of people want: fast voice in → model answer → done, no creepy running commentary on my life. feels like the right form-factor philosophy is "dumb pipe to my real model(s)" not "AI girlfriend simulator". watch PTT or pen recorder + phone relay seems like the next trend
