My main issue with the Gypsy revival boils down to this singular moment. Cutting arguably the most pivotal moment of the TITLE CHARACTERS transformation. Like how do you cut this from the show?

Gypsy has arguably the best book of a musical ever written and chopping this one, especially when Rose still sings it in Rose’s Turn makes NO SENSE

Something tells me that cutting this will rob Joy of a nomination come Thursday.

I absolutely agree, which is a travesty because after All I Need is the Girl I was ready to hand her the whole statue

Didn’t Laurents add much of “The Strip” dialogue for the Lansbury revival? Not disagreeing with you, I very much miss Gypsy’s patter during that section.

Yes! And the show was better for it! I don’t even mind some of the latter patter being cut, but THAT LINE is vital!

To me, it’s really clear why they cut it and it has to do with blackness. For me this cemented i was listening & witnessing a Black Louise.

Please share with the class! I understand a lot of the changes and nuances but this one I’m just missing

The strip is the single worst part of the production and speaks volumns to a grave misunderstanding Woolf and Brown have about Louise. They don't like her. They like Joy. That is a huge problem.

There's some precedent I suppose--Gypsy didn't talk at all in the original 1959 Strip, it was all added (along with the Garden of Eden sequence) by Arthur Laurents himself when he directed his first production, the Lansbury 1973-4 revival. Still, cutting it now makes no sense.
