If I could fix one thing in Washington, it would be passing my Prevent Government Shutdowns Act so we never find ourselves in this position again.

We are just seven days away from a potential government shutdown. My bill, the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, would take shutdowns off the table for good.

I have worked for years to pass my Prevent Government Shutdowns Act. The bill would make sure that during a shutdown, Congress would have to stay and work while the American people are held harmless. Congress should stay in DC until DHS is open.

Nothing motivates Congress like jet fumes. My Prevent Government Shutdowns Act keeps us in DC until we finish all 12 appropriations bills. Momentum to end shutdowns for good is growing.

🚨 BREAKING: Sen. Ron Johnson just exposed that uniparty lawmakers in DC LEVERAGE government shutdowns to continue the fraudulent spending Every time the government is about to shut down, they add ear marks and hold everyone hostage Johnson says to pass the ELIMINATE SHUTDOWNS ACT so this STOPS. "Congress should pass my Eliminate Shutdowns Act — or at least my Shutdown Fairness Act — to ensure the government continues functioning to minimize the harm of congressional dysfunction. Unfortunately, uniparty appropriators want the leverage of shutdowns — using government workers and the public as pawns in order to pass spending bills that we can’t afford." 💯

The leverage to end a shutdown should never be TSA agents and federal law enforcement missing paychecks. Those families have nothing to do with Congress failing to finish its work. My Prevent Government Shutdowns Act puts the pressure where it belongs: on Congress.

Around the Senate, my Prevent Government Shutdowns is a radical idea. I believe that if Congress does not get their work done on time, they should stay in DC and not punish the American people with a shutdown. I hope my colleagues will continue to step forward and support my bill, so we never have a shutdown again.

The first duty of government is to protect Americans. Yet Ossoff's Office, Senator Gary Peters, Senator Mark Kelly, & Senator Tim Kaine chose shutdown politics that leave DHS underfunded during rising security threats. End the shutdown and pass the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act.

We did it. Now it’s time to make sure we get what we need from this Labour government.

Here in DC, we are working on a lot of President Donald J. Trump’ nominees, as well as a Continuing Resolution to keep our government funded. On Wednesday, I will be testifying in front of House Appropriations in support of my Prevent Government Shutdowns Act. That's What's Moving on Monday!

We voted to end pay for Senators during a government shutdown. If our federal workers aren’t getting paid during shutdowns, neither should we.

The U.S. Constitution requires Members of Congress to be paid, even during government shutdowns. If Members of Congress had to forfeit their pay during government shutdowns, there would be fewer shutdowns or they would end quicker. That’s why I’ve introduced a constitutional amendment that, if ratified, would bar Members of Congress from receiving a paycheck for the duration of a shutdown. It’s time Congress plays by the same rules as everyone else & we get back to work on behalf of the American people.
