Rupert Lowe is a one man opposition. Excellent work to push QE out of the shadows, as Gilt prices wilt and our borrowing costs yawn. British people can’t afford the inflation that QE would bring now. It is not an answer.

There is no Executive, so-called civil society or commentator that is going to undermine the powers of Parliament. Parliament has the powers to make binding resolutions and laws, and that must not be surrendered to a Commission established by the Executive to make non-binding recommendations. Parliament is a product of a democratic process - it must be respected regardless of one’s personal views of it. It must not be undermined to pander to individuals. The General must appear to the Ad Hoc Committee established to investigate his allegations - that’s all.

We have strengthened our military, capability, technological, and industrial independence. We must see this effort through to the end, fully. We must accelerate it, and in light of current events, we must finish convincing all Europeans to engage alongside us in this work.

When we engage in this kind of conduct, we deviate from constitutional ordainment. We show our back to our duties. This chamber is more than just a house of debate - our national spirit has to echo from here. If parliament strays from its constitutional duty to represent people's hopes and aspirations, it is our duty to nurture nationalism, further democracy. I urge you all to embrace the spirit of meaningful dialogue. Let us return to traditional thoughtful discussion. #RajyaSabha #WinterSession2024
