There was hardly anybody I didn't speak to. We gave them the coordinates, which were easy to get. The first time, they asked for N25 million, three motorcycles, a lot of drugs, a lot of medications, rice, and all sorts of things. All in all, between the first day they were kidnapped and when they were released, we spent close to N175 million." — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, recounts his family's ordeal with kidnappers while serving as special adviser on political matters in the office of Vice-President Kashim Shettima

Kidnappers k!ll teenage girl abducted along with her mother and three siblings in Abuja after family failed to pay N60m ransom A secondary school student, Folorunsho Ariyo, who was kidnapped in the Dutse axis of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has been killed by her abductors. LIB reported that gunmen invaded Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse on Sunday, January 7, 2024, and kidnapped ten residents, including Miss Ariyo, her mother and three siblings. It was gathered that Folorunsho and Nabeeeha Al-kadriyar's remains were among four corpses of kidnapped victims dumped at Ida, near Ushafa in Bwari Area Council. According to the Nigerian Tribune, the teenager was the daughter of Ekiti State-born Chief Legal Officer of the National University Commission (NUC). Family sources told the publication that the kidnappers had demanded the sum of N60 million ransom to release members of the Ariyo family who could only raise about N5 million. “Talks were still ongoing and as of last Friday, we were optimistic of a positive outcome until we were contacted to pick up her body,” a family source said. The teenage girl was buried on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Dutse Cemetery, Abuja while the other members of the family remain with their abductors. - LindaIkeji

THREE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS RESCUED UNHURT, PART OF RANSOM PAYMENT RECOVERED IN IMO STATE. On invitation, yesterday I arrived in Imo State and went through Ogbaku, Ejemekwuru, Amakohia Ubi, Ndegwu Okuku, and Ireti communities. Working in collaboration with the Nigeria Army 34 Artillery Brigade, Imo State Homeland Security, and the Amakohia Ubi Security Network, we carried out a coordinated operation. With technical and intelligence support from the Safe City Volunteer Team, we traced the kidnappers to a farmland in Ndegwu Okuku, where security operatives engaged them in a gun battle. The kidnappers fled the scene and abandoned three victims they had held captive while awaiting ransom payments from their families. A total of five victims were kidnapped. One release yesterday paid ransom, one was killed by the kidnappers and three was rescued unhurt by us. The rescued victims revealed that the kidnappers are eight in number and are strangers speaking Fulani. One of the kidnappers said he was kidnapped last week Friday around Portharcourt road and they trekked to Ejemekwuru Information gathered shows that these kidnappers are scattered across the above mentioned communities and other parts of Owerri West. Special thanks to everyone who made this rescue mission a success 🙌. (NAMES HIDDEN).
