My Switch 2 arrived! Time to test the N64 emulator. First impressions: Zero improvement on controls. Despite being able to remap them with the latest update, the sticks are still oversensitive and makes aiming impossible. Can't manage to make the emulator slowdown, but...

... As you can see on the clips above, every level seems to be running at a locked ~20FPS. I was baffled, I thought they limited the framerate on every level, but after I loaded a Suspend Point from 2023, it seems to be running fine even after restarting. Ignore fast animations.

Going back to Caverns I confirm that it is still locked at ~15-20FPS. Only this level does it, you can notice that the menu is 60FPS and then the level drops a lot. (Switch clips are 30FPS) Also... If you fire long enough with automatics, say bye-bye to your vibration! (????)

Now for Perfect Dark: The input delay on the menus is abysmal. I didn't notice this on GoldenEye, but then again menus there are running at 60FPS. Interestingly I couldn't get the vibration notification to show up. Other than that, same drops as on Switch 1, and bad controls.

So TL;DR: A huge, albeit expected, disappointment. Nintendo continues failing to deliver good N64 emulation. I'm sure I'll enjoy the new Switch a lot on actual Switch 1 & 2 titles, can't wait to play with improved framerate there, but I had to report on this.

All of these still applies to the Switch 2. I'll test online eventually.

Freaking wow! Literally nothing changed and caverns is STILL locked to 15fps even on switch 2 I hate it here

I can’t take out the ceiling drone guns in the cradle level. Aim too oversensitive

Yeah it's a damn constant fight with the aiming with the modern controllers. A shame.

this just reminds me if why i mostly used c buttons to aim on the n64 console. the joystick aiming was goofy then too.

Not at all. N64 allowed for surgical aim with the joystick thanks to 0% deadzones and proper calibration. The difference is night and day between some of the best FPS controls ever to just unplayable.
