This wasn’t just “a woman” - this was Bethany MaGee. She survived being drenched in gasoline and set on fire, but her life will never be the same. And still, a man with 72 offenses was allowed to walk freely among the public. That’s not justice - that’s a system choosing criminals over victims. This has to end. I’m going to continue showing the reality of what is happening in our city until Chicago citizens finally say, “Enough is enough.” Until Chicagoans are ready for REAL change, REAL accountability, and REAL leadership. Law and order has always been one of my number one priority. My administration will do just that. From the Juneteenth holiday weekend through the Fourth of July holiday weekend, at least 67 people were shot and at least 11 people were killed in Chicago, and that does not even include every shooting that happened between those two holiday periods. Juneteenth weekend (June 19–22, 2026) 47 people were shot, 8 killed and 39 wounded. Fourth of July weekend (2026) show that more than 20 people were shot, with at least 3 people killed during the long holiday weekend. Combined total for those two holiday weekends: About 67 people shot At least 11 people killed This does not include the shootings that occurred in between those two holiday weekends. Families are grieving. Communities are hurting. These are not just statistics, these are mothers, fathers, children, neighbors, and loved ones. We cannot normalize violence. We cannot ignore what people are experiencing on the ground. As Mayor, public safety will be a top priority. These meetings are a joke. All we get is recycled talking points, excuses, and a front-row seat to watch how our tax dollars are being wasted. That's it. They give the appearance that they're discussing solutions to improve your life. But when you sit through these meetings and watch what actually happens, you see the truth. The citizens come last. The agenda comes first. I've attended meeting after meeting at City Hall, Cook County, CPS, and other government bodies. The more you watch, the more you realize how disconnected these elected officials are from the people paying the bills. As Mayor, I will change that. My administration will launch forensic audits of city departments, contracts, grants, and taxpayer-funded programs. We will identify waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption and make the findings public.
