I'm not a huge fan, but there are far far worse hymns.

"Lord of the Dance" I eventually rejected the song because it likened Jesus' ministry on Earth, and even His passion, to an interpretive dance or something. But that's not all. The composer apparently drew inspiration from both Jesus and a Hindu "god" when writing the song.

All Are Welcome. Absolute nonsense.

I sing in the church choir, and this gets sung at about 90% of funeral masses. Nobody in the choir likes it 🥴

As a Traditional Catholic now it's not in my sphere, but growing up in the early Novus Ordo days there were many sappy songs, like 'Sons of God', 'Eagles Wings' and 'Gather us in'. Ok, that's three.

We call that “the death song” in my family because they always play it at funerals. I rather dislike it. But if you ask me a hymn that should be banned from Mass and from human civilization in general, it’s “Go Make a Difference,” followed closely by “All are welcome.”

The lyrics of Eagle’s Wings is literally taken from Psalm 91. Why is it not appropriate for Mass?

On Beagle's Wings

There is so much wonderful Catholic Christian music written in the last 500 years that is hard to believe the amount of crap that's been put into the American Catholic Hymnal. A lot of the melodies, harmonies and voice leading in the American hymnal are such absolute musical nonsense that it sometimes ruins the spiritual moment. Yes, I go to Mass for the Eucharist not the music, homily or any other secondary reason.

2 Communion songs - often at “kids’ Masses” - are annoying to me: “We Come to Your Table” & “Table of Plenty”

They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Love. Makes me feel like I’m in the 70s

I Am the Bread of Life. Horrible tune, awkward rhythms, random numbers of syllables per line, plus I hate songs where we're singing AS God and not TO Him.

I'm so sick and tired of people criticizing the Mass. Why can't you just be grateful that you can still find a Mass to attend?

I knew a church organist who met the composer of On Eagle’s Wings, and even he was sick of how overused it was for weddings and funerals.
