#NAMIBIAVOTES2024 | Some polling officials undergoing election training in Nkurenkuru, Kavango West Region, are threatening to boycott or not work at the elections on November 27 if their request is not met. With only one day of training to go, the trainees are requesting for their daily training rate... to be increased from N$150 a day to N$300. The spokesperson of the group, Stefanus Kudumo, says the ECN has been paying the same N$150 for years, adding that they cannot afford to pay for three meals and accommodation per day with that amount. The training rate was N$100 per day, but it was increased to N$150 about 7 years ago. Even though the trainees were aware of the daily rate before accepting the job offer, they say the last 9 days have been difficult on their pockets. There are 1,141 polling officials in Kavango West and will be deployed to eight constituencies. Contacted for a response, ECN's regional electoral officer, Elizabeth Visagie, told nbc News that she is unable to comment at the moment. Just a regular day at the Garud Regimental Training Centre… The trainees carrying wooden logs are officer cadets who are made to run with heavy logs resembling rocket launchers along with their pithoos, unlike the airmen who run only with pithoos. One Ustaad shared with me “We ask them to run with these wooden logs saying what if one day they have to run with real rocket launchers? 😁” The officer trainees undergo extra ragda and are subjected to gruelling training before they are selected to become Garuds. It is on their shoulders that the safety & survival of their flight will depend. Hence, their training level is tougher. This was shot last year, and by the time my book is published, I assume only a handful of them would have joined the elite ranks of the Garud. A couple who are set to get married in two weeks' time were dealt a heavy blow when their wedding items were stolen. Heavy rains received on Saturday have left many houses surrounded by water at the Ehenye residential area in Oshakati, Oshana Region. The pools of water in the yards are making it difficult for residents to move to and from their homes, while those with sedans have to look for parking elsewhere because their cars could be submerged. Residents are furious, and they are blaming the Oshakati Town Council for allocating them plots in a flood-prone area that they say was not properly planned.
