Just a regular day at the Garud Regimental Training Centre… The trainees carrying wooden logs are officer cadets who are made to run with heavy logs resembling rocket launchers along with their pithoos, unlike the airmen who run only with pithoos. One Ustaad shared with me “We ask them to run with these wooden logs saying what if one day they have to run with real rocket launchers? 😁” The officer trainees undergo extra ragda and are subjected to gruelling training before they are selected to become Garuds. It is on their shoulders that the safety & survival of their flight will depend. Hence, their training level is tougher. This was shot last year, and by the time my book is published, I assume only a handful of them would have joined the elite ranks of the Garud. A couple who are set to get married in two weeks' time were dealt a heavy blow when their wedding items were stolen. Heavy rains received on Saturday have left many houses surrounded by water at the Ehenye residential area in Oshakati, Oshana Region. The pools of water in the yards are making it difficult for residents to move to and from their homes, while those with sedans have to look for parking elsewhere because their cars could be submerged. Residents are furious, and they are blaming the Oshakati Town Council for allocating them plots in a flood-prone area that they say was not properly planned. We had to train the girls at night because the girls had travelled all day from Butere. When they arrived at Kerobon at around 4pm, they were locked in a room and told not to rehearse. They were told they would perform the following day at 6 am. In the history of drama festivals, no item has ever been performed at 6.
