The debate on immigration has become so toxic that we are in danger of not being able to talk about it at all - we need to change that because otherwise we could make the situation worse for all concerned. District judges do not have the power to meddle in immigration cases. Congress made this clear. Immigration courts handle these cases. Then the Board of Immigration Appeals. Then the federal courts of appeals. District judges have no jurisdiction. Immigration enforcement is civil, not criminal. We have used immigration warrants for decades.
