Cool engineering thing about IMAX - the film is so large that a traditional film transport system would put too much stress on the sprocket holes on the edge of the film. The film needs to get pulled forward a frame and then held still, the acceleration forces increase as the square of the frame size, so the full 15 hole/frame IMAX film is 9 times the acceleration of 5 hole/frame 70mm. This extra stress increases the chance that film gets damaged to the point that the developers of the format came up with a 'Rolling loop' transport mechanism that bends the film into a loop of exactly the right length, this moves down the film like a wave, and each wave advances the film by one frame. This changes the stresses and lets the large format film work without failing. I remember seeing this in the 90's and only just remembered when someone showed me a video from Ryan Coogler talking about film formats.

From International Space Station, we have a unique vantage point to observe lightning storms from directly above them. Much like from the ground, they appear as rapid, intense flashes that are over as quickly as they started. But, with the help of handheld cameras and a bit of practice (and, admittedly, some luck), we can capture these intense flashes with a very high frame rate then slow them down to see how the lightning propagates. It's lightning, in slow motion. This is one that occurred over Indonesia on 6/28. I shot it for a half second at 1/120 frame rate, so, 60 separate frames. I then compiled those frames into two videos: the first, in real-time, and the second, slowed down so that each frame is a half second to highlight the progression of the flash. Note the incredible burst of light in one frame, which includes what is likely a TLE on the upper left. A TLE, or Transient Luminous Event, is an electrical discharge that happens in the upper atmosphere above lightning storms (if you haven’t seen Ferry Farhan TLE photo from last week, head over to her page). As their name implies, these are transient, or short lived, phenomena – it appeared in only one frame of the sequence, lasting for no more than 1/120th of a second. The last photo is that single frame. Absolutely incredible.

Recent discoveries have identified Phoenix A, a supermassive black hole with an estimated mass of around 100 billion suns—or possibly even more, as its exact mass has not yet been measured using orbital methods. Phoenix A resides at the center of the Phoenix Cluster of galaxies and boasts some truly mind-boggling features: - Mass: 24,100 times greater than Sagittarius A*, the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. - Scale: Twice the mass of the entire Triangulum Galaxy, including its dark matter halo. - Event Horizon: A Schwarzschild diameter of 590.5 billion kilometers (3,900 AU), roughly 100 times the distance from the Sun to Pluto. - Circumference: Traveling around its event horizon at the speed of light would take 71 days and 14 hours. - Growth: Gains about 60 times the mass of the Sun every year. Given its immense size, Phoenix A might belong to a proposed class of stupendously large black holes —primordial black holes with masses potentially exceeding 100 billion solar masses. Such objects push the boundaries of what we understand about the formation and evolution of black holes, far surpassing the theoretical mass limits of luminous, accreting black holes in spiral galaxies.

‼️BREAKING: Resurfaced Footage Captures New SUSPECT In All Black Fleeing UVU — Looks MORE Like Lance Twiggs Than Tyler Robinson New video has resurfaced showing a man running from the UVU crime scene on 9/10, filmed by a witness who believed he was the real suspect. The man is seen wearing all black, with a black backpack and long dark hair — matching multiple descriptions from that day. Construction worker Dylan Hope previously described coming into contact with a man right after the shooting who said “someone’s been shot.” He described him as wearing a black trench coat, black cargo pants, black COVID mask, black sunglasses, and having long greasy black hair while carrying a small backpack. That description also closely matches what was broadcast over police dispatch that day: a suspect wearing all black, black mask, and carrying a long gun. The only known footage of a person on the roof also shows someone dressed entirely in black in a prone position on the Losee building. This new video does not appear to show Tyler Robinson — however, the man in the video bears a noticeable resemblance to Lance Twiggs — particularly in hair length, color, and profile, though the footage is too blurry to make a positive identification. If this is the same person seen on the roof and the same individual who approached the construction crew, it raises serious questions about who was actually at the scene that day. The descriptions of the person seen running, the person on the roof, and the individual who approached the construction crew are all consistent with each other… and inconsistent with Tyler Robinson. There's a whole laundry list of proofs that I find independently convincing, but if I had to pick just one single argument to hang my hat on for why I believe the Earth is flat and stationary, it is the STARS & PLANETS, and their paths in the sky from Earth's POV. How do you explain in the heliocentric model, how every star traces perfect circles around the North Star, and every PLANET traces perfect sacred geometrical patterns around the North Star as well? According to the heliocentric model of the solar system (1st video) all of these spinning ball planets in the Milky Way are orbiting the SUN, at different speeds and path circumferences, at distance ranges from 36 million to 2.8 billion miles away from us. The North Star, NASA tells us, is 2.5 QUADRILLION miles away. Now tell me how all of these independent Sun-orbiting planets would trace PERFECT patterns around the North Star for 6,000+ years of recorded history? Venus literally creates a PERFECT flower of life pattern, which we see appear in nature here on Earth as well. Get the f*ck out of here if you think that's just a fluke cosmic accident. Not to mention, EVERY SINGLE CONSTELLATION has remained the exact same in our sky for 6,000 years? I just press a button… and my Tesla takes me to my destination. No stress, no constant steering, no thinking about every little turn. It just drives me safely there. And honestly, it’s hard to explain this feeling to someone who hasn’t experienced the latest software yet. It’s freakin 2026... If your car isn’t electric and can’t take you from parking lot to parking lot by itself, it's like using a flip phone with a keyboard… or riding a horse in this era. That might sound dramatic, but once you see what’s actually happening behind the scenes, it starts to make sense. When I activate Tesla’s Full Self-Driving, the car is doing far more than simple cruise control that other car companies show off... it's really funny when I see them advertise it tbh. My Tesla is literally watching the world around it with eight cameras that give it a full 360° view. All that video feeds into the onboard AI computer inside the car, which is constantly analyzing everything around it like cars, lanes, pedestrians, traffic lights, construction zones, and making decisions in real time. Tesla has millions of cars on the road, and every single one is helping train the system. Even when people are driving manually, the AI is running quietly in the background predicting what it would do in that situation. And when something unusual happens, a weird intersection, a sudden obstacle, an unexpected move from another driver, that short clip gets sent back to Tesla’s data systems. Engineers then use those clips to train the next version of the driving AI. And that updated AI then gets pushed back to every Tesla through a software update. So literally overnight, your car wakes up smarter. This is what we call the Tesla’s AI flywheel. The more cars on the road, the more data the system learns from. The more it learns, the better the driving gets. The better the driving gets, the more people use it. And that cycle just keeps spinning faster. At this point the fleet has driven billions of miles using FSD, which means the system has already experienced situations that no single human driver could ever see in a lifetime. That’s why when you press that button, the car is running a massive neural network that learned from millions of real drivers and billions of miles on real roads. And the result is something that honestly feels like the future. You literally just press a button… then you arrive at your destination. ELON: YOUR TESLA WILL ACTUALLY BE MAKING MONEY FOR YOU “Sometimes people wonder how do you go from this big fleet to actually monetizing the fleet in an autonomous situation? And it's actually a combination. It's like Airbnb and Uber, to some degree. So, there'll be some cars that Tesla owns itself. It's kind of like an Uber fashion. But then, for the fleet, that is owned by our customers, it will be like an Airbnb thing. You can add or subtract your car to the fleet whenever you want. So you can say, I'm going away for a week. Just one tap on your Tesla app, your car gets added to the fleet, and it just makes money for you while you're gone. So you can add it to the fleet for a few hours, for a few days, for a few weeks. Whenever you want it back, you can say, come back. And the car will come right back. And I'm highly confident that the revenue made by the owner of the car will far exceed the actual monthly payment. And then, Tesla will obviously take a revenue share on that, but most of the money will go to the owner of the car. And this is actually going to work. This is what will happen.
