To confirm the correlation between tree leaf color and CO2 from volcanic magma, scientists measured CO2 levels and collected leaf samples near an active volcano in Costa Rica. 🌴🌳 The research was with AVUELO, a joint @NASA and @smithsonian field campaign, in March 2025.

🌋 Taal had another two 'minor' phreatomagmatic eruptions today. This is a selection of videos from the biggest. Wow!!! A little more about Taal in the Philippines... Taal Volcano is one of the world’s most unique and unpredictable volcanoes. It sits on an island, inside a lake, inside a much larger volcanic caldera - a setup that makes it stunning but also volatile. One of the stranger claims I see online is that reducing CO₂ would somehow be “the end of humanity because we need CO2 to breathe.” In reality, the carbon we exhale (not inhale) is part of a short, natural cycle: plants take it in, we eat the plants (or animals that ate them), and we release that carbon back into the air within a year or so. What’s not natural is digging up fossil fuels—carbon that’s been locked underground for millions of years—and releasing it all at once.
