However, they later realized that the object was actually Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster, which was launched into space by SpaceX in February 2018. The car had drifted past Mars into the asteroid belt and swung back to within 150,000 miles of Earth. The initial misidentification highlights concerns among astronomers about the increasing number of untracked space objects, which can complicate efforts to detect and study potentially hazardous asteroids.
