The answer would definitely get too long So the short version is saturation, values and contrast are very important Look at the drawing black and white see what need fixing, which parts blend together Or for example, to shade red you can use purple rather than a darker red

i see! i already know stuff about saturation, value, and contrast, but the main thing i was wondering was how you get into the mindset of seeing red and thinking to shade it with purple like why purple? why not another color? can it be another color? stuff like that

At this point I just do everything out of habit and I don't really think about it It can also depend on the background color, the overall vibes and the colors of the characters themselves You could shade with a lot of other colors (red > blue, yellow > orange, green > blue)
