It is a wrong base assumption that leads to the failure of every model that people try to build on top of that assumption when it faces reality

@deepstateradio @djrothkopf @michaeltomasky He seems to have a good grasp of the pressures and challenges, but not at all of Russian imperialist & cultural mindset. This is the seemingly realistic logic that predicted Russia not invading. I'm not just putting this on Jake. The US political class broadly doesn't get it.

@deepstateradio @djrothkopf @michaeltomasky It is very convenient for Russia that Americans think they understand Russians. They literally communicate with each other in "concepts", and not in the words that are spoken at that time, and with foreigners it is always a double-bottomed language.

Putin is OK with those loses if he turns out to be the one who grabs new land at the end. Hit his strategy. Make him run. That would hurt him - but Jake doesn't want that.

@deepstateradio @djrothkopf @michaeltomasky Russia has nearly endless amounts of fresh meat, and given that "sanctions work" so russia has no issues buying Western chips, equipment and machinery for weapon production. It's not enough to say "they are bleeding", we need to work hard to make that happen.
