The British and German defence ministers have acknowledged that Ukraine is a "contributor" to European security and should have a place within NATO. "Ukraine is increasingly recognized and understood to play a part in the training of other NATO nations' forces. In recent moves to respond to [Russian drone] incursions into NATO airspace, Ukraine has stepped up, responded in practice, and I think is helping to demonstrate more clearly to more people how Ukraine is fighting for its future. But the unique leading combat experience that it now has means that it can already and will in the future make a huge contribution to the security of Europe more generally," UK Defence Secretary Healey said during a press conference at NATO headquarters. German Defence Minister Pistorius backed his British counterpart up, saying that he "couldn't agree more."

With Russia deploying nuclear-capable missiles to Belarus and European leaders voicing concern about long-term security, Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the United States remains firmly committed to NATO, calling the alliance a key deterrent and urging member nations to continue increasing their defense capabilities. "We believe that if you want a strong NATO, you want your allies in NATO to be stronger," Rubio told Margaret Brennan. "The more capable our allies in NATO are, the stronger NATO is collectively, and that's why we're very pleased to see them make that commitment of 5%, with the exception of Spain."
