The GlobalEye, based on the Bombardier Global 6000/6500 business jet, is equipped with the multifunction Erieye ER AESA radar, mounted in a distinctive dorsal fairing, providing 360-degree coverage. This system is capable of detecting airborne threats as well as monitoring maritime and ground targets at ranges of 450–550 km. Selecting the GlobalEye would allow Germany to quickly acquire its own AEW&C capability while NATO transitions from the aging E-3A Sentry to the new Boeing E-7A Wedgetail, whose initial operational readiness is planned for 2031. At the same time, the GlobalEye offers several advantages: low operating costs thanks to its business-jet platform, access to shorter runways, and resilience in heavily jammed electromagnetic environments.
