Most people think AI means we don’t need to learn anymore. But that idea crumbled last month when I sat across from Stanford Graduate School of Education Dean, Dan Schwartz. Dan read this to the audience: “The procedure is actually quite simple. First you arrange things into different groups. Of course, one pile may be sufficient depending on how much there is. If you have to go somewhere else due to lack of facilities that is the next step; otherwise you are pretty well set. It is important not to overdo things. That is, it is better to do too few things at once than too many…” No one really understood it. Then he gave them one line of context: “This is about doing laundry.” And suddenly it all made sense. Same paragraph. Same words. But once you *knew* what it was about, your brain could organize the information. Dan looked at the audience and said, “If you don’t know enough, the AI’s output is just words and sentences. You might *think* you understand it, but you don’t.” And he’s right. AI doesn’t eliminate the need to learn—it makes real knowledge more important than ever. This is a conversation we’re constantly having at Alpha. Because when a kid asks ChatGPT a question, how do they know if the answer’s even good? How do they know when to push back or ask more? It all comes back to this: you need knowledge to interpret the output. That’s why we still teach writing. That’s why we teach proportionality. That’s why we want kids to understand germ theory, gravity, and the Bill of Rights. Not because they’ll regurgitate it on a test, but because they’ll need that knowledge to make sense of the world (and the tools) around them. AI will make learning faster, more playful, and more personalized. But it won’t replace the need to learn. It’ll just expose when we haven’t. If you aren’t using ai apps to enhance your life you’re falling behind at least professionally so pls, pls start educating yourself. Too many here want to talk about it in the abstract or debate the virtues or dangers and that beyond ok but it’s not ok to not understand the counter point which is this is profound technology and you should learn to harness it ❣️

Haerin: Personally, I’m deeply grateful to the people around me who have helped me grow mentally and made me feel alive. I want to continue working with those people going forward. But I truly can’t understand this situation where outside forces are constantly interfering with us and trying to block us. I don’t understand it… and I feel like I’m being forced to try to understand it. What exactly is supposed to be “for our benefit”? What does it even mean to help us grow? I honestly just cannot understand it at all. And why do our fans, our Bunnies, who found comfort in us and built happy, joyful memories together with us, have to go through something like this? Why do they have to worry about things they shouldn’t even have to worry about? I feel so sorry, and it feels like such a waste. On top of that, they even brought up the work that represented the relationship between us and Bunnies… the things that allowed us to coexist and support each other. At this point, we don’t want to hear anything else. And I… I don’t want to conform to, agree with, or follow the values of the society those people belong to. That’s not the direction I believe in at all. That’s why I chose not to go down that path.

With the predictions of disaster that are not connected clearly to warming or to our activities or to anything else, and leaving people with the thought that if the first part is true, the second part must be true. And this is certainly not the case. And then to add insult to injury, to propose policies that would have nothing to do with any of it, but involved trillions of dollars and harm to many people, is I think crossing the line."

They're sort of hand-waving around, or you start to drill in more and the hand-waving begins where they can't really understand or explain it.
