NDLEA declares drug kingpin, 3 associates wanted, blocks N9.8billion in accounts …Secures forfeiture of multi-billion-naira fuel station, buildings, SUVs, as Marwa vows to disrupt the financial architecture that sustains drug cartels The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared a drug kingpin, Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna (a.k.a Odogwu) and three of his associates: Emmanuella Chinonso Iroka; Nnamuka Ifeanyi Kingsley and Ekechi Franklin Chijioke (a.k.a Ekene Okwunaga) wanted over their involvement in the establishment of a clandestine laboratory, production of methamphetamine and drug money laundering. The suspects were declared wanted based on the order of Justice Iniekenimi Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo state, following an application by NDLEA in suit number FHC/OW/CS/22/2026 filed before the court on 3rd July 2026. This followed the discovery of a methamphetamine producing clandestine laboratory where 18.4 kilograms of the illicit substance and other items were recovered by NDLEA operatives at Isiozi in Umuaka, Njaba local government area of Imo state on 25th February 2026. Investigations later linked the wanted suspects to the meth lab and have since then gone into hiding. Through forensic investigation of the meth syndicate by NDLEA operatives, bank accounts linked to the wanted suspects with a combined balance of Nine Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Six Naira, Sixty Six Kobo (N9,840,873,566.66) only was frozen while the Agency has secured interim forfeiture orders covering multibillion naira assets owned by members of the syndicate including: a filling station, multi-storey residential buildings and four Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) marked RLU 148 AJ; KJA 563 FZ; BWR 249 DY and FST 208 HU. Reacting to the development, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and operatives involved in the operation, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Agency's resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the financial architecture that sustains them. "This latest operation reaffirms our unwavering commitment to tracking down drug kingpins and their collaborators, no matter how sophisticated their network or how long they attempt to evade justice. The discovery of this clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Njaba, and the subsequent freezing of nearly ten billion naira in illicit funds, alongside the forfeiture of a filling station, multi-storey buildings and four exotic SUVs, sends an unambiguous message that the illegal drug business is no longer a safe haven for criminals seeking to launder their ill-gotten wealth through legitimate enterprises. "I want to assure Nigerians that the Agency will not relent in going after the fleeing suspects and anyone else linked to this syndicate. We will continue to deploy financial and forensic intelligence to trace, freeze and forfeit assets acquired through drug trafficking, just as we will not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against fugitives who think they can hide from justice. "I appeal to members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspects to volunteer such information to the nearest NDLEA office or through our confidential lines, as we remain committed to ridding our communities of the scourge of drug trafficking and its attendant social and economic harm", Marwa stated. The duo were arrested with the assistance of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on May 25, 2024, at Ibiye, along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, as they attempted to cross the land border to deliver the consignment to Ghana. According to NDLEA's Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the husband and wife were found with 42 blocks of cocaine weighing 47.5 kilograms. A subsequent raid on their residence in Agbara, Ogun State, uncovered an additional eight blocks of cocaine weighing 10 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to 57.5 kilograms. The statement reads: "A cocaine trafficking cartel headed by a couple: Bolanle Lookman Dauda and Olayinka Toheebat Dauda has been smashed in Lagos and Ogun States by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with multi-billion-naira worth of the illicit drug recovered in two major operations following the arrest of the kingpin and his queen in one of the intelligence-led raids. "The duo were arrested on Saturday 25th May 2024 by operatives of a special operation unit in NDLEA with the support of the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States at Ibiye, along Lagos-Badagry expressway while attempting to cross the land border to deliver the consignment in Ghana. "At the point of their arrest, 42 blocks of the Class A drug weighing 47.5 kilograms were found on them. A swift follow-up operation in their residence at Plot 24/25 OPIC extension, Petedo road, Agbara, Ogun State, led to the recovery of an additional eight blocks of the same drug weighing 10kg, bringing the total weight of the cocaine seized from the couple to 57.5 kilograms. In a related operation, NDLEA operatives also recovered 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid, from two members of a drug trafficking syndicate at the Idumota market in Lagos Island. Additionally, 432 grams of methamphetamine were seized from two individuals in a separate raid on Lagos Island. The statement said, "In another raid by the special operation unit, no fewer than 1,100 ampoules of lethal synthetic opioid, fentanyl, weighing 6.48kg were recovered from a member of a drug trafficking syndicate, 34-year-old Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi at the popular Idumota market in Lagos Island. "No less than 790 ampoules of the dangerous opioid weighing 5.273kg were equally seized from another member of the fentanyl syndicate, 48-year-old Chieze Ogechukwu Benjamin who was also arrested at Idumota market. Fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid, which is 100 times more potent than heroin is currently responsible for over 70% of overdose deaths as well as a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the US. "Two other persons: Olayiwola Aremu Kazeem, 37, and Ogunfowora Taofik Ajibola, 35, were arrested on Lagos Island in a different raid by NDLEA officers with 432 grams of methamphetamine recovered from them. NDLEA operatives at Tincan port in Lagos intercepted a container marked MSMU 7294325 on May 25, containing a Toyota Highlander SUV with 15 parcels of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, weighing 7.5kg. The container, which originated from Toronto and passed through Montreal, Canada, was declared to contain three used vehicles, including the Toyota Highlander. However, the hidden drug consignment was discovered and seized by the NDLEA. Credit: X | ndlea_nigeria --- Follow us for more breaking news and videos

101-YEAR-OLD GREAT-GRANDMOTHER ARRESTED AS NDLEA INTERCEPTS COCAINE IN FUFU Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman for alleged drug dealing, intercepted cocaine concealed in edible cassava flour popularly known as fufu, and seized consignments of illicit drugs worth over N4.4 billion in separate operations across the country. The centenarian, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested on August 15, 2026, at Ilisan, Ogun State, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, which she reportedly admitted selling in retail quantities. She told operatives that she turned to drug dealing after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire, adding that one of her daughters based in Lagos supplied her with cannabis every four days. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), directed that she be granted bail and placed on counselling due to her advanced age, while her daughter was arrested. In Akwa Ibom, NDLEA operatives on August 21 intercepted a wooden boat conveying illicit drugs towards fishing settlements in Cameroon and arrested three suspects with 42.622kg of narcotics. The seizure included 42.06kg of skunk, 1.12kg of skunk, and 20 grammes of cocaine cleverly concealed inside a large wrap of edible cassava fufu, alongside 435 grammes of skunk. The Agency also recorded what it described as its first seizure of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand through the maritime corridor after intercepting two containers of cannabis indica, popularly known as Loud, at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos. The Apapa container, declared to contain dry fish, rice, vehicle spare parts, turmeric soap and inverter batteries, contained 1,090.5kg of Thai Loud, while the Lekki container yielded 400kg. The combined street value of the consignments was put at over N4.4 billion. In the FCT, operatives intercepted three waybill packages containing 24,410 tramadol capsules inside a Hummer bus travelling from Enugu to Zuba on August 22. A follow-up operation in Niger State led to the arrest of the alleged owner, 28-year-old Sunday Eze, in Kontagora. In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 10,000kg of skunk cultivated across four hectares at Ijare forest, Ifedore LGA, and separately recovered 210kg of skunk and a Toyota Camry at Ita-Ogbolu. Other operations led to the seizure of 1.325kg of methamphetamine and cannabis in Kwara; 4.68kg of assorted illicit drugs from a 65-year-old woman in Oyo; 73.3kg of skunk in Kano; 48kg of skunk from three family members near Seme in Lagos; and 14.4kg of Loud, 2.3kg of Colorado, tramadol and Rohypnol in Abia. The NDLEA also sustained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns across schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities in several states. Marwa commended officers and men of the affected commands for the successful operations and urged them to sustain the Agency’s balanced approach to drug control through enforcement, prevention and public education.

NDLEA Arrests Fleeing Celebrity Drug Kingpin, Busts International Cocaine Cartel in Lagos By Zagazola Makama The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel operating through Nigeria as a transit hub to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia, arresting its alleged Nigerian kingpin as he attempted to flee the country. The operation also led to the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, which the cartel allegedly intended to move through a courier logistics channel in Lagos for onward distribution, with an estimated street value of about N39 billion. The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Marwa described the operation as one of the most significant narcotics investigations undertaken by the agency in recent times, particularly because it resulted in what he described as the largest cocaine seizure made through a courier company in Nigeria. According to him, the investigation began after NDLEA operatives intercepted the 184.50kg consignment concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Following the magnitude of the seizure, the NDLEA chairman directed the establishment of a Special Investigation Team to trace the entire trafficking network, including the couriers, intermediaries, financiers and alleged masterminds behind the shipment. The investigation subsequently uncovered a network of companies and individuals allegedly used by the cartel to process and move cocaine out of Nigeria. One of the key suspects arrested was identified as Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the cocaine consignment was processed. Investigators allegedly established that Kehinde maintained a sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator and was involved in packaging and processing consignments for the syndicate. The NDLEA said he allegedly helped route shipments to the United Kingdom, other European countries and Asia, receiving payments in cash for his role. The investigation then led operatives to a more prominent suspect identified as Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury.” The agency described him as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the international cartel. According to the NDLEA, Afolabi presented himself publicly as a luxury goods dealer and social media influencer involved in gold, jewellery and other high-value items, while allegedly using the lifestyle surrounding his businesses to conceal his involvement in international cocaine trafficking. Investigators alleged that the network operated a cocaine pipeline stretching from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. Marwa said the alleged cartel leader was arrested on the night of August 13, 2026, after the agency received intelligence that he was planning to leave Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.NDLEA operatives reportedly moved to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and arrested him at the boarding gate shortly before he could leave the country. He was allegedly found in possession of €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, alongside expensive jewellery.

Illegal Lithium Mining Boom at Old Oyo National Park: 3,000–5,000 Bikes Daily, N2,700 Per Trip, Chinese Buyers, Local Security Earn N300,000 Daily A booming illegal lithium mining operation has taken over large swaths of the Old Oyo National Park, with an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 motorcycles plying the forest daily to transport minerals out of the protected area, investigations have revealed. The operation, which has been ongoing for about eight years, has evolved into a highly organised criminal enterprise with multiple entry points and checkpoints. Access to the mining site is available either from Oyo State via Kishi and Igbeti or from Bani, a border town along the Kwara and Oyo State axis. Once a bike enters the forest, it must pass through seven to eight checkpoints controlled by locals who provide security for the miners. Each checkpoint charges a fee per trip, ranging from N100 to N500, while the final checkpoint leading to Daba, the hub of illegal mining, charges N2,700 per trip. With thousands of bikes operating daily, the revenue generated is staggering. Local security personnel at the N100 checkpoint alone earn over N300,000 daily. Logistics operators who do not mine but transport the minerals earn about N500,000 per truck they move out of the forest. The mining activity has been accepted by all parties involved, including locals and foreigners. The Chinese are actively participating in buying the minerals, making this a billion-dollar economy that is being illegally exploited. The Federal Government and Oyo State Government must pay urgent attention to this illegal mining operation. The scale of the activity suggests a well-funded and well-protected criminal network that is siphoning billions of naira from the nation's resources while destroying a protected national park.

INSIDE OYO NATIONAL PARK: HOW ILLEGAL MINING HAS TURNED A PROTECTED FOREST INTO A LAWLESS COMMUNITY. As some of you might recall, i did a light report about illegal mining carried out in Old Oyo National Park which is linked to Kwara State as well in 2023. After the report which, I remembered reaching out to Ministry of Mining, a taskforce was established to curtail the activities of the miners, it worked effectively especially at the Oyo state side but it wasn't working effectively in Kwara state. After the killings of 5 National Park personnel by bandits last week, which I broke the news, I carried out an investigation to see the level of compliance at the Old Oyo National Park where lithium mining activity is going, then i discovered the said mining has become a full blown community. The current number of illegal miners operating at Old Oyo National Park is estimated to be between 200,000 and 400,000, including individuals involved in buying and selling activities at the site. According to my research , there is nothing sold outside the illegal mining site that is not also sold within the site. Items sold include foodstuffs, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and various forms of hard drugs. There is also the presence of sex workers who render their services to illegal miners inside grass huts constructed within the area. Additionally, medical drugs and medical items such as needles, injections, and intravenous fluids are openly sold at the site. Explosives are also sold to illegal miners and are used for blasting lithium during excavation. There are thousands of blacksmiths on site who fabricate various tools used for illegal mining activities, including shovels, diggers, chisels, and hammers. There is a high rate of child labour at the illegal mining site, also known as Daba. These children are used mainly for sorting lithium from rocks. The illegal mining site is divided into two sections: the Yoruba illegal mining section and the Hausa/Fulani illegal mining section. Both sections are located within Old Oyo National Park. The road leading to the illegal mining site (Daba) is not motorable. Access to the site is only possible by motorcycle. All extracted lithium is transported by motorcycles to Bonni, Igbeti, or Soro in Kishi. This indicates that illegal miners access the mining site through Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni. As at the time of writing this report, many empty trucks are observed entering through Igbeti, Oyo State, heading directly to Bonni, and passing through Bonni to Jeba Oloru, Kwara State, from where the lithium is transported to destinations of their choice. They operate within the confines of laws established by the illegal miners’ chairman, popularly known as “CD.” Anyone who commits the crime of stealing is punished by death. The area is so enclosed that outsiders can be fished out by them. A bike man who carries lithium from the forest to the truck earns ₦12,000 per bag. One bag of lithium weighs 100kg, and they carry two bags, making 200kg. The miners are so familiar with the area that they can easily move to Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni in Kwara State from the forest while evading security forces without being noticed, because many of them have been living in the forest for more than three years without seeing the outside world. It is imperative that both the Kwara State Government, Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government get hold of this before it becomes a security problem for the whole country. Illegal mining in Old Oyo National Park is progressing, not regressing.

HURIWA ACCUSES ABBA KYARI'S LEGAL TEAM OF SPREADING FALSEHOODS TO OBSTRUCT JUSTICE The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has accused the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and his team of orchestrating a deliberate campaign of misinformation to subvert justice in his ongoing drug trafficking trial. In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA said recent reports circulating on social media, claiming that two convicted drug traffickers had implicated officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), were false and intended to mislead the public. HURIWA stated that official court records and witness statements from the convicts, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, show that they had no contact or collusion with NDLEA officers at Enugu Airport in January 2022. The statement said that pictures and travel details of the traffickers were sent to Kyari, who, despite being under suspension and facing extradition to the United States, dispatched his team to intercept the suspects. The group added that while in Kyari’s custody, the traffickers were allegedly coerced into making statements against NDLEA officers, and the videos being circulated were scripted under the supervision of Kyari’s men. HURIWA cited evidence already admitted in court, including a video showing Kyari handing over $61,400 to an NDLEA undercover agent, described as proceeds from the sale of seized cocaine. The organisation also referenced witness statements from the convicts detailing how Kyari’s team identified and intercepted them at Enugu Airport after receiving information from the cartel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The group called on the Nigerian judiciary to remain steadfast and urged media outlets to verify claims against official court transcripts before reporting, warning that false narratives cannot erase evidence of criminality. HURIWA emphasised that the prosecution’s case, supported by documented evidence of bribery and breach of public trust, remains intact.
