NDLEA declares drug kingpin, 3 associates wanted, blocks N9.8billion in accounts …Secures forfeiture of multi-billion-naira fuel station, buildings, SUVs, as Marwa vows to disrupt the financial architecture that sustains drug cartels The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared a drug kingpin, Nnamuka Kelvin Uchenna (a.k.a Odogwu) and three of his associates: Emmanuella Chinonso Iroka; Nnamuka Ifeanyi Kingsley and Ekechi Franklin Chijioke (a.k.a Ekene Okwunaga) wanted over their involvement in the establishment of a clandestine laboratory, production of methamphetamine and drug money laundering. The suspects were declared wanted based on the order of Justice Iniekenimi Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo state, following an application by NDLEA in suit number FHC/OW/CS/22/2026 filed before the court on 3rd July 2026. This followed the discovery of a methamphetamine producing clandestine laboratory where 18.4 kilograms of the illicit substance and other items were recovered by NDLEA operatives at Isiozi in Umuaka, Njaba local government area of Imo state on 25th February 2026. Investigations later linked the wanted suspects to the meth lab and have since then gone into hiding. Through forensic investigation of the meth syndicate by NDLEA operatives, bank accounts linked to the wanted suspects with a combined balance of Nine Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Six Naira, Sixty Six Kobo (N9,840,873,566.66) only was frozen while the Agency has secured interim forfeiture orders covering multibillion naira assets owned by members of the syndicate including: a filling station, multi-storey residential buildings and four Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) marked RLU 148 AJ; KJA 563 FZ; BWR 249 DY and FST 208 HU. Reacting to the development, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and operatives involved in the operation, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Agency's resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the financial architecture that sustains them. "This latest operation reaffirms our unwavering commitment to tracking down drug kingpins and their collaborators, no matter how sophisticated their network or how long they attempt to evade justice. The discovery of this clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Njaba, and the subsequent freezing of nearly ten billion naira in illicit funds, alongside the forfeiture of a filling station, multi-storey buildings and four exotic SUVs, sends an unambiguous message that the illegal drug business is no longer a safe haven for criminals seeking to launder their ill-gotten wealth through legitimate enterprises. "I want to assure Nigerians that the Agency will not relent in going after the fleeing suspects and anyone else linked to this syndicate. "No less than 790 ampoules of the dangerous opioid weighing 5.273kg were equally seized from another member of the fentanyl syndicate, 48-year-old Chieze Ogechukwu Benjamin who was also arrested at Idumota market. Fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid, which is 100 times more potent than heroin is currently responsible for over 70% of overdose deaths as well as a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the US. "Two other persons: Olayiwola Aremu Kazeem, 37, and Ogunfowora Taofik Ajibola, 35, were arrested on Lagos Island in a different raid by NDLEA officers with 432 grams of methamphetamine recovered from them. NDLEA operatives at Tincan port in Lagos intercepted a container marked MSMU 7294325 on May 25, containing a Toyota Highlander SUV with 15 parcels of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, weighing 7.5kg. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a shipment of c%ca+ne concealed within 20 religious books destined for Saudi Arabia. According to a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the operation took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at a courier company in Lagos. The dr¥gs—20 parcels weighing a total of 500 grams—were found hidden within the pages of the books during a routine search of outbound cargo by the agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI). On the same day, NDLEA operatives at another courier facility in Lagos seized five parcels of Lo¥d, a potent strain of c@nnabis, weighing 2.8 kilograms. The dr¥gs had been concealed in a carton sent from the United States.

The dr¥gs—20 parcels weighing a total of 500 grams—were found hidden within the pages of the books during a routine search of outbound cargo by the agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI). INSIDE OYO NATIONAL PARK: HOW ILLEGAL MINING HAS TURNED A PROTECTED FOREST INTO A LAWLESS COMMUNITY. As some of you might recall, i did a light report about illegal mining carried out in Old Oyo National Park which is linked to Kwara State as well in 2023. After the report which, I remembered reaching out to Ministry of Mining, a taskforce was established to curtail the activities of the miners, it worked effectively especially at the Oyo state side but it wasn't working effectively in Kwara state. After the killings of 5 National Park personnel by bandits last week, which I broke the news, I carried out an investigation to see the level of compliance at the Old Oyo National Park where lithium mining activity is going, then i discovered the said mining has become a full blown community. The current number of illegal miners operating at Old Oyo National Park is estimated to be between 200,000 and 400,000, including individuals involved in buying and selling activities at the site. According to my research , there is nothing sold outside the illegal mining site that is not also sold within the site. Items sold include foodstuffs, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and various forms of hard drugs. There is also the presence of sex workers who render their services to illegal miners inside grass huts constructed within the area. Additionally, medical drugs and medical items such as needles, injections, and intravenous fluids are openly sold at the site. Explosives are also sold to illegal miners and are used for blasting lithium during excavation. There are thousands of blacksmiths on site who fabricate various tools used for illegal mining activities, including shovels, diggers, chisels, and hammers. There is a high rate of child labour at the illegal mining site, also known as Daba. These children are used mainly for sorting lithium from rocks. The illegal mining site is divided into two sections: the Yoruba illegal mining section and the Hausa/Fulani illegal mining section. Both sections are located within Old Oyo National Park. The road leading to the illegal mining site (Daba) is not motorable. Access to the site is only possible by motorcycle. All extracted lithium is transported by motorcycles to Bonni, Igbeti, or Soro in Kishi. This indicates that illegal miners access the mining site through Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni. As at the time of writing this report, many empty trucks are observed entering through Igbeti, Oyo State, heading directly to Bonni, and passing through Bonni to Jeba Oloru, Kwara State, from where the lithium is transported to destinations of their choice. They operate within the confines of laws established by the illegal miners’ chairman, popularly known as “CD.” Anyone who commits the crime of stealing is punished by death. The area is so enclosed that outsiders can be fished out by them. A bike man who carries lithium from the forest to the truck earns ₦12,000 per bag. One bag of lithium weighs 100kg, and they carry two bags, making 200kg. The miners are so familiar with the area that they can easily move to Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni in Kwara State from the forest while evading security forces without being noticed, because many of them have been living in the forest for more than three years without seeing the outside world. It is imperative that both the Kwara State Government, Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government get hold of this before it becomes a security problem for the whole country. Illegal mining in Old Oyo National Park is progressing, not regressing.

The statement said that pictures and travel details of the traffickers were sent to Kyari, who, despite being under suspension and facing extradition to the United States, dispatched his team to intercept the suspects. The group added that while in Kyari’s custody, the traffickers were allegedly coerced into making statements against NDLEA officers, and the videos being circulated were scripted under the supervision of Kyari’s men. 48 hours after carrying out coordinated raids of drug gangs perpetrating drug deals and related crimes in Gowon estate, the Taskforce, returned to 31 Rd and the adjoining streets of Wole Omo Osho, Bless Jah, Adenle Crescent and Okunola Rd in Mosan-Okunola LCDA in Alimosho LGA in a mop up exercise for the most extensive clean up operation to end the activities of drug peddling and use in the entire area. The operation which commenced at about 1800hrs of Thursday 28th November, 2024, led to the arrest of 43 suspected sellers of illicit substances and criminal elements who have converted the entire area into a safe haven for unlawful drug activities. A significant mix of different illicit drugs, viz a viz substances suspected to be Kanedian Loud Hemp, prescription drugs, Codeine Syrups, several Weighing Scales of illicit substances, Indian Hemp Crushers and knives were recovered from the suspects. Neighbouring shop owners who conspires and conceal the illicit drugs for the peddlers and same recovered in their shops were arrested while those in whose shops nothing incriminating was found were warned to concentrate on what is displayed for sales at their various shops and never to join in such illegal act. Also, all makeshift/ shanties used for the drug activities around the entire area were demolished during the operation and operatives were deployed with blackmaria stationed for sustenance. Many casitas were targeted by various task forces leading to the detention of over 130 people and the seizure of numerous firearms and narcotics. Additionally, through the FBI’s work on the Darkweb, investigators identified one of the largest vendors selling fentanyl and other controlled substances which are distributed throughout the United States. Warrants served during this operation resulted in the arrest of a Chinese national in the United States illegally, and the seizure of nearly 200 pounds of fentanyl, methamphetamine and other narcotics.
