As some of you might recall, i did a light report about illegal mining carried out in Old Oyo National Park which is linked to Kwara State as well in 2023. After the report which, I remembered reaching out to Ministry of Mining, a taskforce was established to curtail the activities of the miners, it worked effectively especially at the Oyo state side but it wasn't working effectively in Kwara state. After the killings of 5 National Park personnel by bandits last week, which I broke the news, I carried out an investigation to see the level of compliance at the Old Oyo National Park where lithium mining activity is going, then i discovered the said mining has become a full blown community. The current number of illegal miners operating at Old Oyo National Park is estimated to be between 200,000 and 400,000, including individuals involved in buying and selling activities at the site. According to my research , there is nothing sold outside the illegal mining site that is not also sold within the site. Items sold include foodstuffs, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and various forms of hard drugs. There is also the presence of sex workers who render their services to illegal miners inside grass huts constructed within the area. Additionally, medical drugs and medical items such as needles, injections, and intravenous fluids are openly sold at the site. Explosives are also sold to illegal miners and are used for blasting lithium during excavation. There are thousands of blacksmiths on site who fabricate various tools used for illegal mining activities, including shovels, diggers, chisels, and hammers. There is a high rate of child labour at the illegal mining site, also known as Daba. These children are used mainly for sorting lithium from rocks. The illegal mining site is divided into two sections: the Yoruba illegal mining section and the Hausa/Fulani illegal mining section. Both sections are located within Old Oyo National Park. The road leading to the illegal mining site (Daba) is not motorable. Access to the site is only possible by motorcycle. All extracted lithium is transported by motorcycles to Bonni, Igbeti, or Soro in Kishi. This indicates that illegal miners access the mining site through Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni. As at the time of writing this report, many empty trucks are observed entering through Igbeti, Oyo State, heading directly to Bonni, and passing through Bonni to Jeba Oloru, Kwara State, from where the lithium is transported to destinations of their choice. They operate within the confines of laws established by the illegal miners’ chairman, popularly known as “CD.” Anyone who commits the crime of stealing is punished by death. The area is so enclosed that outsiders can be fished out by them. A bike man who carries lithium from the forest to the truck earns ₦12,000 per bag. One bag of lithium weighs 100kg, and they carry two bags, making 200kg. The miners are so familiar with the area that they can easily move to Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni in Kwara State from the forest while evading security forces without being noticed, because many of them have been living in the forest for more than three years without seeing the outside world. It is imperative that both the Kwara State Government, Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government get hold of this before it becomes a security problem for the whole country. Illegal mining in Old Oyo National Park is progressing, not regressing.

They operate within the confines of laws established by the illegal miners’ chairman, popularly known as “CD.” Anyone who commits the crime of stealing is punished by death. The area is so enclosed that outsiders can be fished out by them. A bike man who carries lithium from the forest to the truck earns ₦12,000 per bag. The miners are so familiar with the area that they can easily move to Igbeti, Kishi, and Bonni in Kwara State from the forest while evading security forces without being noticed, because many of them have been living in the forest for more than three years without seeing the outside world. It is imperative that both the Kwara State Government, Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government get hold of this before it becomes a security problem for the whole country. The Daughters of the Confederacy have presented a memorial of their dead to the Government of the United States. I hope that you have noted the history of the conception of this idea. It was suggested by a President of the United States who had himself been a distinguished officer in the Union Army. It was authorized by an act of Congress of the United States. The corner-stone of the monument was laid by a President of the United States elevated to his position by the votes of the party which had chiefly prided itself upon sustaining the war for the Union, and who, while Secretary of War, had himself given authority to erect it. And, now, it has fallen to my lot to accept in the name of the great Government, which I am privileged for the time to represent, this emblem of a reunited people. I am not so much happy as proud to participate in this capacity on such an occasion: proud that I should represent such a people. Am I mistaken, ladies and gentlemen, in supposing that nothing of this sort could have occurred in anything but a democracy? The people of a democracy are not related to their rulers as subjects are related to a government. They are themselves the sovereign authority, and as they are neighbors of each other, quickened by the same influences and moved by the same motives, they can understand each other. They are shot through with some of the deepest and profoundest instincts of human sympathy. They choose their governments; they select their rulers; they live their own life, and they will not have that life disturbed and discolored by fraternal misunderstandings. I know that a reuniting of spirits like this can take place more quickly in our time than in any other because men are now united by an easier transmission of those influences which make up the foundations of peace and of mutual understanding, but no process can work these effects unless there is a conducting medium. The conducting medium in this instance is the united heart of a great people. I am not going to detain you by trying to repeat any of the eloquent thoughts which have moved us this afternoon, for I rejoice in the simplicity of the task which is assigned to me. My privilege is this, ladies and gentlemen: To declare this chapter in the history of the United States closed and ended, and I bid you turn with me with your faces to the future, quickened by the memories of the past, but with nothing to do with the contests of the past, knowing, as we have shed our blood upon opposite sides, we now face and admire one another. I do not know how many years ago it was that the Century Dictionary was published, but I remember one day in the Century Cyclopedia of Names I had occasion to turn to the name of Robert E. Lee, and I found him there in that book published in New York City simply described as a great American general. The generosity of our judgments did not begin to-day. The negative labeling by the political establishment in Tunisia was based on a disastrous misunderstanding of the impact of social agency of the marginalised masses yearning for change. Borobudur Temple Compounds, one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world, and was built in the 8th-9th Centuries AD, during the reign of Syailendra Dynasty (750-850 AD). The monument is located in the Kedu Valley, in the southern part of Central Java, at the centre of the island of Java, Indonesia. Temple is a Mahayana buddhist site, has 504 Buddha statues. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,520 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s. The vertical division of Borobudur Temple into base, body and superstructure perfectly accords with the conception of Universe in Buddhist cosmology. It is believed that the universe is divided into three superimposing spheres, kamadhatu, rupadhatu and arupadhatu, representing respectively sphere of desires where we are bound to our desires, the sphere of forms where we abandon our desires but are still bound to name and form, and the sphere of formlessness where there is no longer either name or form. Like the Lebanese army, the Internal Security Forces are unable to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons. The “Hezbollah state” has the power to arrest (in effect, kidnap) members of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and negotiate with the Lebanese state for their release. On January 23, 2026, a police patrol of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, ISF (قوى الامن الداخلي ) stopped two Hezbollah trucks in the Al-Tayoune (الطيونة) area of Beirut, near a police station and military base. The trucks were parked suspiciously, had no license plates, and had tinted windows. When the police patrol approached to check the trucks, Hezbollah operatives attacked the patrol. At the end of the confrontation, Hezbollah operatives detained one of the security forces personnel and managed to prevent the patrol from uncovering the contents of the trucks. According to local reports, the trucks were carrying Hezbollah military equipment that had been smuggled from Syria through one of the illegal border crossings with Lebanon. The Hezbollah trucks continued on their way toward the “security square” in Dahiya. In light of the incident, negotiations began between the State of Lebanon and the “State of Hezbollah.” Hezbollah's representative in the negotiations was Ali Ayoub, head of Hezbollah's Security Committee, which is in effect the independent police force of the “State of Hezbollah.” Following the negotiations, Hezbollah released the security forces officer it had detained and promised to hand over the trucks to the security forces at a “later date.” In practice, this means that the trucks and their contents will not be handed over to the security forces. The Hezbollah operatives involved were not arrested or investigated. Hezbollah does as it pleases in Lebanon. This is yet another test case, this time in the context of internal security forces, which demonstrates the inability of the Lebanese security forces in general to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons. The “Hezbollah state” has the power to arrest (in effect, kidnap) members of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and negotiate with the Lebanese state for their release. On January 23, 2026, a police patrol of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, ISF (قوى الامن الداخلي ) stopped two Hezbollah trucks in the Al-Tayoune (الطيونة) area of Beirut, near a police station and military base. The trucks were parked suspiciously, had no license plates, and had tinted windows. When the police patrol approached to check the trucks, Hezbollah operatives attacked the patrol. At the end of the confrontation, Hezbollah operatives detained one of the security forces personnel and managed to prevent the patrol from uncovering the contents of the trucks. According to local reports, the trucks were carrying Hezbollah military equipment that had been smuggled from Syria through one of the illegal border crossings with Lebanon. The Hezbollah trucks continued on their way toward the “security square” in Dahiya. In light of the incident, negotiations began between the State of Lebanon and the “State of Hezbollah.” Hezbollah's representative in the negotiations was Ali Ayoub, head of Hezbollah's Security Committee, which is in effect the independent police force of the “State of Hezbollah.” Following the negotiations, Hezbollah released the security forces officer it had detained and promised to hand over the trucks to the security forces at a “later date.” In practice, this means that the trucks and their contents will not be handed over to the security forces. The Hezbollah operatives involved were not arrested or investigated. Hezbollah does as it pleases in Lebanon. This is yet another test case, this time in the context of internal security forces, which demonstrates the inability of the Lebanese security forces in general to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons.
