Most councils wont permit you to grow anything but a lawn on the berm some I remember some guy grew vegetables on his berm council prosecuted him 🙄 Wild flowers would be better then just lawn

But those grass berms are what makes our streets nice. So nice that everyone (checks notes…) So nice that everyone feels the need to put 1.8m walls between said streets and their homes.

We have those in Hobsonville Point. Some are looking a bit past their prime now but suffice it to say, we survived the massive floods last year without any issues whatsoever. Swales for the win!

Someone have to maintain and feed those and I'd rather once a week push a lawn mower up and down a few times than weed a 20 X 2 m garden bed. The maintenance of garden beds is one the top

Grass is a shocking waste. But there are always co dependent people who want to mow just to feel needed.

In France, Herbs are planted in public areas, freely used by the locals. In New Zealand it is illegal. What the hell is wrong with New Zealand, the Councils ? Answer: Mindless, authoritarion, Soviet Union, mentality.

As long as they stop planting deciduous trees along road sides.

Nonsense. Just stop mowing them. They'll be full of "wild life" in no time. It's good for dogs and cats too, they need to eat grass.

In warm wet regions kikuyu grass will take over and smother everything else up to 6 feet tall. You can't keep applying weed spray as it's poison for water run off. Otherwise a great idea, Mexico city has widely applied green space as suggested here.

Could always make good practise footpaths, increase the width, pop in a seat, make it a better place for all the community

In our suburb they are used as car parks.

Great idea but why can't they be flush with foot paths? Serious fall hazards all over from these being built in towns...

So go shift someplace that has what you want instead of telling the rest of us to change. Enjoy all the litter, human poop, used condoms etc that accumulates in your lovely little paradise

Good in theory and yes they look great but..... they are in fact difficult to maintain (and just ignored by AT and Council) and fill up with sediment quickly.
