I see this same thing with a lot of my students. Here is what’s usually happening when I dig in: - Your short stack 4-12bb game is just fine - 15-25bb not taking enough 3b shove spots out of the blinds - From the BB not checkraising top pair, draws, bottom pair enough - From MP and EP not taking some thin 3 bet spots - Not using big enough sizing with double barrels in position (66-120% pot) - At 10-15bb jamming some on the border hands that can just be raise folds (KJ, AT from MP/EP etc) All of these usually happen out of fear of not bloating pots and busting, but come at the cost of not accumulating chips and having a bigger stack to absorb the inevitable bad beats and coolers. If any of those resonate with anyone reading this, I built this MTT crash course to help people work on those mentioned areas->

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Woah. Bro. Gimme a minute to unpack this goodness 🤯🤯🤯 ((proceeds to go sign up for whatever Faraz Jaka coaching site link was provided))

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Once you get through some of our content let me know! Would love to coach you through some hands in our Member Spotlight event we do once a month if you’re up for it 💪 @tjreidpoker is in the hot seat this Wednesday 😀

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom For all the chat pros saying not to shove pre, here's your 15bb eff shove range button vs HJ open woth chip ev. 99 is an easy shove. GG Tiff. Unlucky.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom This is why you’re the millionaire, TJ 💪🏽 Thanks for the input! Appreciate it 💓

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom The 14bb shove over an active guy’s open is fine. Plenty of fold equity. Plenty of hand. Sub 20bb’s. If he wouldve folded or if your 99 beat his AK/AQ/88/etc. then you wouldnt be sad. You’d completely forget about that hand in an hour. Dont dwell on it. On to the next one

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Thanks for the thoughts, babes. Shoulda woulda coulda 🤷🏻♀️ And good point about 88-AK 👍🏽

A lot of spots in poker, especially with shorter stacks deep in the tournament, is a matter of knowledge. The more you study with GTO Trainers and look at the sims, the more you know what hand classes shove in what spots, and develop intuition about these things. There is simply no alternative to putting the work to study. Even 10 min/day adds up over the long run.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom 99’s is likely a call pre and fold if one of the blinds 3-bets. See a flop of 3 face cards you can easily get away from that hand and live to fight another day.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Is calling and seeing the flop come queen king ez fold if he bets out

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Just my $0.02 but the 9’s shove is super standard. I think the unlock though that’s worked really well for me is learning to win chips without cards late in MTTs so I don’t find myself always short and having to shove to double.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Yes! Important to note when they "wake up" with a hand. If they bet before you, they're already awake having coffee. So your shove's like offering tasty French vanilla. If they're after you resting peacefully then sure! Offering a cup is totally okay. Have fun hope this helps! 🤣

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Oh my god 😂😂😂 This absolutely helped! More input like this, please 🙌🏽

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Do the exact thing same hand last night.

First of all, you made the “right” play (in a vacuum, not knowing anything about the player or table)…so be comfortable with your decision. Not that you necessarily should, but you *can* 3b fold at 14 BBs…it’s not comfortable, but it looks strong af and you’re only getting 4b shipped on by the goods. And you’re in position so if you get to the flop you have all the options. All the GTO dweebs are going to tell you this is stupid - you should absolutely be taking advantage of your significant fold equity and just chalk up the loss to variance. *They are wrong*. Or you can just recognize that’s simply going to happen A LOT and congratulate yourself on putting yourself in position to potentially win the tourney.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Good stuff. I like introducing the 3b/fold idea. I'll put this in my pocket for the future. Thanks for the share!

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom If you’re not re shoving 14bb with 9s v but open rethink your life young padawan ..

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom 9s is standard. Play more hands super early and try to run 🏃♀️ up a big stack so youre always 25-50bb when you get deeper

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Nothing wrong with your play there. He woke up to a monster. Sometimes you’re just coolered. Nothing you can do. worst part of it is. You can feel like your hand is in trouble lol. I’ve been there. You’re like oh no, I don’t think I’m any good but you have to put the money in

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom That’s a bummer. I’m never annoyed with bad beat or cooler stories, so feel free to rant away!

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom gg... on to the next one. This Is The Year!!

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Tournaments are 99% run well. 1% effective decision making. Shoving there was fine. Unlucky he woke up with KK.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom I always think, what would iceman do. You have to wait for the absolute best circumstances, when you feel the bluff or absolutely rock solid hand. At this point in the tourney 9s ain't it

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Its 100% shove

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom I suggest you start playing cash. You can at least reload. 🤣

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom 😂

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Have you tried reading “A new queens guide to poker?” 🤡

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom You have to shove when low on chips,you just do….then luck gets involved….need to not be in that situation all the time!gl

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Keep trying.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Tiffany… I felt this in my soul. Poker has this brutal way of making you doubt yourself even when you’re doing everything right. Keep Going!💪😎🫶

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom On the button. You have position. Try small 3 bets and see what villain does.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom My first question would be. You say he’s been raising a lot in that spot what hands did he take to show down? What hands can you tell me where they top of range were they middle of range? if he took a lot of hands to showdown I would not have raised all in I. That spot with 99.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Next time your 99 will be called by 88 and an 8 will hit you harder, I’ll send the helicopter again🤷♂️. Poker sucks sometimes

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom I feeeeeeel this!

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom That sounds like absolutely the correct play to me. Sorry it didn’t work out.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom You played the 99 correctly there,

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom The only spot where this is a fold is on a final table with several shorter stacks. Otherwise:

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Just the cards ..not a strategy error ..

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Thats poker. I've shoved Aces and lost so many times, I've lost count.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom You need to make sure you don't get to 7 or 8 blinds etc, shove even more and find doubles before your stack gets so shallow

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom I had pretty good 10-12bb shove range but was so card dead at an action table that I literally couldn’t prevent getting to 7/8bb.

@pokerorg @TVPokerRoom The shove with 99 is good, which seems like you already know. If you’re always short stack deep in a tournament you most likely aren’t playing as well as you could be, leading up to that
