Negative impact on Florida has begun from the recently passed DeSantis’ anti-immigrant bill. Immigrant labor is leaving as construction work sites grapple with new restrictions. All to demonize people who simply want to work and be left alone while providing for their families.

With more than 4.6 million illegal immigrants living in Florida many of whom work in construction, how in the hell is FL going to continue rebuilding after last year's hurricanes & the hurricanes sure to hit FL this year? desantis is making FL unlivable for everyone.

Also, farmers relying on immigrant workers with H-2A visas

Why doesn’t he make it a felony for companies to hire illegal immigrants? Why is he only punishing the workers?!

Or alternatively the wages just went up for citizens who are trying to support families. Just do what’s right. It’s not right to be in this country illegally

I could be wrong but isn’t it already illegal to hire undocumented people? That’s why they use fake SSN right?

Who’s going to change the sheets in the hotels, cook the food in the restaurants, mow lawns, or babysit the kids? You think it’s expensive to live in Florida now or even vacation there? Just wait. I suspect SC and AL are going to experience a migration boom.

They can "simply work" in their countries of citizenship. ADOS men have been locked out of the construction industry for 20 years b/c of the companies hiring illegals.

Sorry for the long rant: Florida depends on the labor of those willing to work in 365 days a year hellish conditions, 5 to 6 days a week, for average pay, and often in skilled trades they know nothing about. Roofing, residential and commercial building, HVAC systems, tree trimming, on and on. I have had work done on my home and it is as literal as this: white HVAC guy work only in the house where temps were hot around 90’F while the system was off… but the migrant labor goes up into the attic/under the asphalt roof to run the duct-work and wiring. It is easily 140’F in there, maybe more like 160’F. And I am terrified for them the whole time. It is approx 100ft from the garage attic entry hatch to back corner of the house… I can hear them up there scraping, struggling, and pulling. I know there is no air up there (my partner has gone against my wishes and crawled around up there for various wiring for TV because it absolutely HAS to be done immediately) in the heat of the day. He comes out after a few minutes as bright red as a tomato and panting and itching. He runs to shower immediately. He has explained that it has a severely slanted tight restricted spaces, thousands of old nails pointing straight down thru the plywood under the roofing materials, exposed nails in the 2x4’s where the hurricane strapping is installed, old dry insulation, no light and that it is definitely unfit for humans. When workers are up there all I can think is please let them have no problems, just get in and get out. I insist on giving them water and to come by our swamp coolers that offer minimal relief. I offer jumping in the pool, cool wet towels, more drinks. I can’t help it. It’s just awful. It is something that white workers may do for one day, maybe 2, and then they will refuse to go up in the attic again. Migrants just keep doing it day after day. Without the minimal offerings I can give them if their working at my property. Most people could care less if the “workers” are suffering while working on their property. So now those workers (assuming many are not documented) are not allowed in attics anymore. Now only the white guys are going to have to do it. And it is usually the youngest or most junior white guy that will get tapped to get up there and I can not imagine they will. What will happen? Will MAGA companies just accept they no longer have illegal, cheap, not worried about the “conditions” they have to work in, unlimited labor. Just go ahead and accept the felony charges and convictions and fines that will go to the owners managers, and their legal employees and just go sit in jail for years? #DeathSantis has literally shot himself in the foot. Again.

My heart really goes out to the guy speaking. Here in Brooklyn, I sometimes speak to people like him - they all have heartbreaking stories about where and why they came. They just want to live; like anyone else. They are also willing to do work that no one else wants to.

Does he not realize his state's tourism industry relies on immigrant labor?
