Neguse: You’re not concerned about the tariffs? Joyce: I think the tariffs are short-term pain for long-term gain. Neguse: My constituents didn’t sign up for the short-term pain you’re comfortable with. They don’t want car prices to go up, and the fact that you can’t bring yourself to just... show more

Notice the ones talking about “short-term pain” are never the ones who are going to experience any of it…

Here’s what could get more expensive with Trump’s new tariffs.

What long-term gain?! There IS no long-term gain. Refer to Smoot-Hawley for more information.

You know they always say that right? Short term pain, that’s what Stalin said to the Soviet people…

You don’t build a strong economy by breaking working families and calling it patriotism.

"Short-term pain for long-term gain" is the new "trickle down economics"

how fucking embarrassing it’s a ln absolute fucking cult

I doubt Joyce is feeling any of the pain though.

I see Joyce is repeating Hannity talking points.

The tariff mission started with the right goal—reshoring jobs and resetting unfair trade—but execution matters. Constant reversals and exemptions have turned "short-term pain" into economic whiplash. Prices spiked 18% on imported vehicles since April, while supply chain chaos wiped out 45,000 auto jobs last quarter. Strategic tariffs require consistency, not kneejerk exemptions for political allies. You don’t build leverage by paralyzing capital markets and letting bureaucrats pick winners. Fix the execution, or scrap the policy.

When a leader minimizes the immediate impact on citizens' purchasing power in the name of “future gains,” they forget that it is families who bear the brunt of political decisions. Governing also means protecting their daily lives. The “short term” that Joyce dismisses with a wave of his hand is the daily lives of families. Defending the economy means first and foremost defending their purchasing power, here and now.
