Look, you have to understand this is supposed to be an anthology series. Most of these characters were not supposed to come back after season one. But due to the writers strike and popularity, they had to work around it and the show just crashed from there

I mean, he did manage to get his power back... But in a weird and twisted way.

They shouldn't have taken his main power. He should have either been reset to base level or at least gotten his main power back. Just so he could rebuild himself to be back on Sylar's level.
