The New York City Mayor has called on the US federal government to arrest the Israeli Prime Minister. After reviewing “every possible avenue”, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he acknowledged that the city did not have the “authority” to enforce an arrest warrant made on the Benjamin Netanyahu by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2024. “The federal government, however, does, and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant,” he said. Israel responded to Mamdani's comments on Sunday in a post on X that called the ICC a 'kangaroo court' and said the arrest warrant against Netanyahu was bogus.
