The DOJ has officially moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug. The Justice Department submitted a proposal today to shift cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III, acknowledging its medical uses and lower potential for abuse. This historic shift doesn't make marijuana legal nationwide, but it significantly reduces federal restrictions and opens the door for massive medical research and tax breaks for the industry.
