he did the same thing game 1 1988 nlcs mets dodgers. top 9 mets losing 2-1, @GaryCarterKid up with 2 on 2 out. mccarver says the outfield is playing too deep. of course carter hits a blooper to shallow cf that john shelby dives for and misses. 2 runs score mets win.

@KCCardinal91 Tim was broadcasting for the Cardinals for a few later years. Loved his playing career and in the booth.

I had the same thought as McCarver at that time. After 5 years of utter dominance the Yankees were never the same after the 'Duel in the Desert.' Buster Olney captured it in his excellent tome "The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty." All Things Must Pass.

Tim McCarver was one of the best announcers to call the game. RIP
